The Appeal
The Porsche 911 is an icon. Its distinctive smooth, flowing lines, impressive performance and sheer practicality have made them an almost ubiquitous sports car in the modern market. The 997 was quickly seen as one of the best of the line upon its release in 2004, and is still hugely desirable today. It was lined up with new ‘bug eye’ headlights, larger 18” alloys, an improved suspension and even more power under the lid. The result was an incredible all-rounder, something that was met with acclaim almost across the board. It wasn’t just a good car - it was a truly great car.
Whether it was that little shot of every power or those distinctive bug-eyes bringing the 997 back towards the classic Porsche profile, this motor was an instant hit. It boasts excellent handling and top-notch performance in a compact, practical package that suits both Porsche and day-to-day driving enthusiasts to the ground. The Porsche enthusiast market remains one of the most passionate out there, and there’s little doubt from both that this model is a triumph, through and through.
This example is a great ambassador of just how much impact a starter 997 can have. It’s an immediate eyecatcher, in great condition throughout with a full engine rebuild under the hood and an impressive service record.

The 997’s interior brings a fabulous level of occasion that feels almost futuristic in its appearance. Textures split into beautiful angular panels on the inner doors, curvy black leather seats provide impeccable comfort, and the stitched leather accents carry a very real, tangible sense of craftsmanship.
Everything in the 997 is tactile and flows beautifully, with smooth, polished textures and a colour scheme of silver and black throughout. It makes for a beguiling feel, with rich tones and a sense of fearlessly modern luxury. It carries the smooth, flowing lines from outside the doors into a truly impressive cabin for both driver and passenger.
The wear here is minimal, with only the characteristic sag in the rear seats that comes with age. There are some light scuffs to the entry sills, and a slight blemish above the heater, but other than this, there are no marks that we can discern or flaws that need to be highlighted. All of those essential colours, textures and outlines are present and correct, looking every bit as welcoming and fresh as the day they were installed.
We’re informed that all of the electronic equipment is working correctly. The car’s storage area is in good condition with only minor wear to the carpet and comes with a complete toolkit.
The Exterior
- Superb quality exterior with very little wear
- Original Porsche alloy wheels
- Electric sunroof and spoiler
The 997 is a classic Porsche outline with smooth shapes, flowing lines and distinctive “bug-eye” lights. The 996, its predecessor, caught some negativity for its so-called “fried-egg” headlights, so it’s perhaps no surprise that people were happy to see more traditional styling arrive in 2004. Mixing this with the tried and tested profile, the 997 is a real crowd-pleaser, with everything kept beautifully minimalist while maintaining its sporty profile.
With its stylish Seal Grey paintwork, this 997 maintains that factory-fresh lustre. After 15 years, it’s rather impressive to see so much of that silver paint still in good order, with only the occasional hairline scratch or scuff, none of which stand out unless subject to a particularly close inspection. It’s quite literally a shining example of the brand’s reputation for an exceptional finish.
The trims, lights and glasses are clean and well-presented, fitting effortlessly into the vehicle’s clean shape. The alloy wheels complete the deal, adding a great sense of stance with its five-spoke design and those ever-so-eyecatching Porsche badges, wrapped in tyres with a good tread.
We’re informed that the underside of the vehicle is in good condition with no major corrosion or structural damage.
The electric spoiler and sunroof are also clean and well-kept, to such an extent that it’s almost easy to forget they’re nestled into the car’s panels. Ultimately, it’s a fabulous-looking machine that does very little to betray its age and is a testament to being very well looked after since its purchase.
The Mechanics
- Engine rebuilt in 2019, ensuring top-quality performance
- Spark plugs and filters replaced in 2020 during a major service
- New OEM disks with Brembo pads recently installed
- Very clean engine bay
- We’re informed there are no mechanical issues to raise
Thanks to a fairly recent engine rebuild, the 3.6 litre 6 cylinder engine is still looking, sounding and acting at its best. We’re told there are no faults to the vehicle’s driving characteristics, with continuous servicing and excellent maintenance ensuring that it fires into life and takes to the road as it should.
We’re told the drive is excellent - every bit as impressive as the brand is known for. From its smooth transmission to the mighty engine, the 997 is a ready-and-raring example of German engineering that’ll create an absolutely joyful experience for the lucky buyer.
Summary
It’s hard to understate the popularity of the 997 to the layman. It’s a real all-rounder, a car with very little to fault and plenty to enjoy. Sure, most sports cars are nippy, but this one boasts that all-round practicality. It’s genuinely useable in the day-to-day, without sacrificing a spot of that timeless glamour.
With only one owner - a rarity in itself - this Porsche’s well-kept service record and rebuilt engine bring a superb level of polish. A truly impressive example of a truly impressive car that’s ready to make a statement the moment that you take the keys.
