  • Low milage
  • AMG performance

THE APPEAL

Described somewhat as a sleeper, the CLK500 is undoubtedly a fantastic car to own. So what do you get for your money with the CLK500?
The first thing is that the pillarless coupé is a fantastic looking vehicle, especially when all the windows are down, creating a sense of space by losing the B pillar. Secondly, being the elegance model, it comes well specced. There is full leather, folding mirrors, Bluetooth, Parktronic system Command DVD APS with navigation; you get the gist; it basically has everything you could expect and need.

Thirdly, being the later model, it has the 5.5 litre V8 engine fitted, which has 82bhp more than the previous version bringing it to an impressive 388bhp which is actually 21bhp more than the CLK55 AMG model. Finally, it has sports suspension as standard and a smooth seven-speed automatic gearbox. All in all, it's a great car, and this one has only seen four previous keepers and covered just under 50,000 miles.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • V5 is present with just four previous keepers
  • Registered 10th September 2007
  • Excellent service history
  • Original owner’s handbook and service voucher booklet
  • MOT valid until 24th June 2023
The seller purchased the CLK in February 2020, and since then he has covered approximately 2,500 miles. The car comes with the owner's manuals and a well stamped main dealer service book. To back up the history, there are printouts of the services from the Mercedes-Benz UK system. The seller put a fresh MOT on the Mercedes on the 25th June 2022, and it passed with no advisories.
Being a huge Mercedes fan, it was one car that he wanted to own. This has now been ticked off his list and is being offered for sale, enabling someone else to have the pleasure of owing this low milage 2007 Mercedes CLK500 Elegance.

THE INTERIOR

  • Amaretta Leather interior
  • Air conditioning
  • Cruise control
  • Mercedes Bluetooth
  • Parking sensors
Inside, the Mercedes is in excellent condition. The electric seats are finished in Amaretta leather which is superb and shows minimal signs of any wear other than a tiny bit on the driver's side bolster. As you would expect after looking at the front, the rear seat is also in excellent order with little signs of any use. The door cards are also in excellent condition with no scuffs or marks, and the electric seat controls are working as they should.
The dashboard is unmarked, finished in a darker beige colour than the seats. Sitting behind the wheel, this shows little signs of wear. The instruments display clearly with no warning lights when the engine is running, and the odometer reads 49,136 miles. Moving to the centre of the dash, the burr walnut trim is in good order with no cracks or splits to the lacquered finish.

The switchgear is in good order with no noticeable wear to the buttons. The factory fitted navigation system is working correctly, and there is the disc present to update this, dated 2018. Everything is reported to work as it should, except that the glovebox mounted CD changer won’t eject the cartridge. This has not been investigated.
A set of mats is fitted to protect the beige carpet; lifting these shows the carpet and heel pad, which are in excellent order. Above, the headlining is nice and clean with no sagging to point out. Inside the boot is also nice and clean and looking under the carpet you will find the spare wheel, jack, locking wheel nut and CD navigation system discs.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Finished in Cubanite Silver Metallic
  • Excellent paintwork
  • Pillarless coupe
  • Refurbished alloy wheels
  • Good tyres
The seller has spent a considerable amount of time pampering the CLK in his two year ownership, and it is clear to see. The paintwork is in excellent condition and has a deep glossy finish. Starting at the front, there are a couple of small age related stone chips. The xenon headlights have crystal clear lenses with no yellowing, which can often be seen on vehicles of this age. The fog lights below are in good order with no cracks or splits. Looking at the bonnet, this appears to align as it should with an equal panel gap on each side.
Around to the flanks of the pillarless coupé, there are a couple of tiny dings, but these are small and have to be caught at the right angle to spot them. The doors look to align as they should, again with an equal panel gap. The mirrors are electric, and folding, and work correctly. The windows are unmarked, and all work as they should, essential to show off the pillarless look.
At the rear, the correct badges are in place, which have a bright finish. The lights are free from any splits to the lenses, and the bumper is free from any scuffs or scratches, possibly thanks to the parking sensors. The AMG wheels have been refurbished and are all in good condition with a matching set of Pirelli tyres that have only covered approximately 1,500 miles.

THE MECHANICS

  • 5.4 litre engine 388bhp
  • Well maintained
  • 7-speed automatic gearbox
  • Excellent drive with no knocks or bangs
As mentioned earlier, this CLK500 comes with the fantastic 5.4 litre V8 engine, capable of propelling the vehicle from 0-60mph in a touch over 5 seconds and maxing out at the obligatory 155mph. The Mercedes has been well maintained throughout its life, mainly by Mercedes main dealers.
The CLK fires up easily and comes to a smooth idle with no untoward noises coming from the engine bay area. Looking around the car, there didn’t appear to be any leaks, and everything looked in good order. The seller reports that the car pulls strongly through the 7-speed automatic gearbox, and the change is smooth. There are also no noises reported to come from the transmission or suspension.
The brakes look in good order and still wear the Mercedes-Benz lettering on the calipers, and there is no excessive lip to be seen on the edge of the disc. The car is said to come to a halt in a straight line, with no juddering reported to come through the pedal.
