The Appeal

Work on the R230 began in 1996. This was the successor to Mercedes-Benz's flagship R129, and as it was intended as a cutting-edge product, the design followed much the same line. Twelve potential designs were analysed using a supercomputer, and the R230 was proudly touted as the definitive Merc for the 21st century. The retractable hard top, in particular, felt positively futuristic and still garners interested gazes today.
