This 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL500 is a modern classic drop-top cruiser which is presented in good condition. Under the bonnet sits a a naturally aspirated V8 engine that produces ample amounts of power and torque, capable of whisking you down the road with absolute ease. The perfect pairing of performance and sound, especially on a day when you can take full advantage of the convertible roof.
This SL500 has been looked after fairly well over its life with many service stamps to note in the Mercedes Service book that have been carried out either by official Mercedes dealerships or specialists. The car comes with the original V5C as well as the original book pack and fresh MOT that shows a clean bill of health.
Mercedes have always been top of their game when it comes to making luxurious interiors with this particular interior being no exception. The cabin comes with a fair amount of high tech such as the Comand DVD Navigation system and electric heated memory seats and automatic climate control.
The seats present themselves well and are in line with the vehicle’s age and milage. There is a slight tear on the base of the passenger seat and a few age related marks on the passenger and drivers bolster.
The door cards, carpet and trim which surround the cockpit look great with no rips or tears that we noticed. There are some marks to be aware of on the driver’s side door card but nothing that is detrimental to the overall aesthetic of the car.
Overall, the condition of the interior is looking very good for its age.
As far as we are aware all the buttons, switches and electronics within the vehicle are performing as they were intended, including the retraction of the roll bar.
The Designo Mystic Clue paintwork that this SL500 is finished in looks fantastic in the sunshine. There are of course, a few stone chips on the front end but nothing that is unexpected from a car of this age and mileage. We did notice on the lower portions of the front bumper that the corner lips do show signs of damage. The Mercedes badge on the front bonnet could do with replacing as it has degraded over time.
Overall, the exterior bodywork of this Mercedes is in nice condition.
The lightweight alloy wheels really complement the bodywork design with no obvious signs of degrading or curb marks.
Being the V8 model, this SL is one for enthusiasts alike. The V8 engine starts and ticks over as smoothly as one would expect with the 7-speed automatic gearbox functioning well, sliding smoothly between gears with no crunching or grinding that we noticed when manoeuvring the vehicle. The paperwork shows that the car has been subject to regular maintenance over its lifetime.
This is the desirable Facelift Model The SL underwent a facelift in 2006 and was unveiled at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. Changes include new engines for SL 350 and SL 500 (called SL 550 in North America), with improved performance. ABC (Active Body Control) was improved to reduce body movements in dynamic driving by up to 60%, standard on all models except the SL 350.
The new engines were mated to a new 7-speed 7G-Tronic automatic Exterior styling changes include a new bumper with three large cooling air intakes and a more pronounced V-shape as well as fog lamps with chrome surrounds, new light-alloy wheels, new rear light. Interior changes include softer leather upholstery, new interior colours, high-quality metal door sills with Mercedes-Benz lettering and embossed aluminium trim elements, removable luggage cover, optional remote boot-lid release. The roof opening mechanism was also revised, reducing the opening time from 20 seconds to 16 seconds.
