Highlights
- Sports model, with AMG wheels
- Full service history
- Low mileage for age of vehicle
The Appeal
The ever-popular Mercedes CLK is one of those cars which just gets on and does everything it sets out to do extremely well. It manages to be both sporty and refined, which is a difficult balance to achieve.
This particular example is finished in a fetching, deep shade of Tanzanite Blue, which gives it a certain elegance. This theme is carried throughout the car, with its refined interior, powerful V6 engine and factory fitted AMG wheels.
Coming with a good service history, low mileage and recent mechanical work completed, this Mercedes looks to us like it will provide its next owner with many more miles of enjoyable motoring.
The History and Paperwork
- MoT to April 2023
- Full service history
- Much recent expenditure
- Suspension and brakes refurbished this year
The Interior
- Black leather with veneer highlights
- Cruise control
- Dual zone climate control
The black leather interior of this Mercedes appears to be in great condition. It wears its 15 years of use very well, with the vendor reporting that there are no blemishes, scuffs or marks to speak of. The wooden veneer highlights remain in excellent condition, with a deep shine to the finely figured grain. The carpets are excellent and the headlining is said to be clean and secure.
Being a high end automobile, this Mercedes is fitted with all the features you would expect in a car of this calibre. Cruise control is easily reached on a stalk behind the steering wheel, and the driver is provided with an excellent sound system as well as dual zone climate control.
The driver’s binnacle is of a beautifully minimalist school of design. It is uncluttered and we particularly enjoy seeing an analogue clock.
Even the rear seats are provided with what appears to be a generous amount of lateral support, which shows how Mercedes considered the comfort of all passengers in their design process.
The Exterior
- 18 inch AMG wheels
- AMG styling package
- Front spoiler
Finished in metallic ‘Tanzanite Blue’, this CLK looks very smart and refined. We think this shade suits the car very well. The vendor states that the paintwork remains in excellent condition, with only a few barely noticeable stone chips to the bonnet.
The car has reportedly never been welded and there is no reported corrosion or damage to the underside. There appears to be a small amount of surface corrosion, in line with what we would expect to see on a car of this age.
As part of the AMG styling package, this Mercedes was fitted in the factory with 18 inch AMG wheels, which remain in excellent condition. There appears to be some light scuffing to the alloys, but nothing too serious and the tyres are said to retain a good amount of tread.
The Mechanics
- 3-litre V6 engine
- 7-speed automatic transmission, with steering wheel paddles
- Factory fitted sports suspension
- Suspension refurbishment in March 2022
- New front discs and pads in January 2022
This CLK 280 appears to have been well looked after by its current and previous owners. The vendor reports that the car comes with a full service history record. And recently the car has benefitted from a £400 service to renew the vented brake discs and pads, with the garage performing a check-over at the same time.
In March 2022, the vendor reports that the front suspension received a refresh, including new castor arms, in order to pass its MoT without advisories. A new battery was fitted this year, with a five year warranty.
The 3-litre V6 engine produced a respectable 228bhp when new. This is transferred to the rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox, which can also be shifted by paddles on the steering column whenever the fancy takes you.
In all, this Mercedes looks to be ready to eat up the miles in comfort and style.
Summary
This Mercedes CLK 280 is the ideal candidate for a daily driver. It offers ample performance from its V6 engine and a sporty feel to its handling. And having been well cared for by its previous owners, it should be able to happily provide many more years of reliable service, as you would expect from a Mercedes.
This CLK is certainly one of those cars that can do everything: it is sporty, it handles well and it is smart enough to turn up to work in. But all we really want to do is jump in and go for a quick blast through the countryside.
