2007 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Special Edition

Highlights

  • Only 60 ever sold in the UK
  • Completely original vehicle, never been repainted
  • Portfolio-exclusive Celestial Black paint
  • Impressive history file with up to date services

The Appeal

This isn’t your regular, run-of-the-mill XKR. Portfolio editions are a special, extremely limited run, featuring premium equipment, opulent levels of luxury, exclusive paint colours and a serious brake upgrade with Alcon calipers alongside the largest discs ever fitted to a production jaguar of the time. It’s fair to say that the Portfolio is undeniably the best of the bunch when it comes to an XKR.
This particular example we have presented here is of complete original stature, including the original paintwork and body panels which have been well preserved over the years, as has the mechanical side with great service history and a nice chunk of invoices to go along with it.
Not to be confused with the later Portfolio’s which were specified to individual customers, the early 2007 Portfolio cars are extremely rare and sought after. If you’re in the market for something which reeks of luxury as well as exclusivity, you need not look any further than this!

The Interior

  • Alcantara headlining
  • Black leather upholstery with white contrast stitching
  • Engine-spun aluminium veneer
  • Bowers & Wilkins sound system
  • Portfolio-specific door handles and gear shifter
  • Fully functional multimedia display
  • Leather dashboard with contrast stitching to match the seats
  • Boot compartment is tidy and carpets present
  • Original toolkit and scissor jack, and spare wheel present
  • Heavy duty Jaguar rubber boot lining mat
  • Portfolio kick plates
  • Leather edged floor mats
As can be seen from the photos, the interior of the Portfolio edition is just that bit more special than your regular XKR, with lovely contrast stitching, engine-spun aluminium veneer and some wicked sound being produced from the 525 watt sound system from Bowers & Wilkins. This really is the Jag to have if you want the best of the best in any department.
Starting at the front, as we open the front drivers door we’re greeted with a very well presented drivers seat showing some light signs of use via some creasing and leather sheen, but there are no rips, tears and the stitching itself appears to be completely intact here too. The passenger side front seat presents itself in even nicer condition with very little signs of usage, and the same story goes for the rear seats too, however inadequate they may be for ferrying people around.
Sitting in the driver seat we’re faced with the original Jaguar steering wheel shod in leather, showing some signs of wear around the rim as you’d fully expect from a car of this age and mileage that hasn’t been hidden away from the world all of its life. The clocks just behind the wheel function as you’d expect them to and present no unwanted warning lights, showing a mere 96k on the clock.
The dashboard looks absolutely amazing thanks to the engine-spun aluminium veneer which was offered with the Portfolio editions, and echos the premium price tag that the car carries. It just oozes class and sophistication from every corner, what a lovely place to be!
Overall, the inside of this Portfolio is stunning, there’s no two ways about it. Well kept black leather with shining aluminium trim laced throughout, it looks absolutely fantastic! Truly a nice piece of Jaguar history - a very limited piece at that.

The Exterior

  • Celestial Black paintwork
  • Original paint and body panels
  • Original 20” Cremona wheels
  • Alcon-developed calipers front and rear
  • Polished aluminium side vents
  • Aluminium window surrounds
  • Mesh front grills
  • Iconic quad tip exhaust
Stunning, isn’t it? The portfolio features some additional hints to its ridiculous power over the standard XKR, including the humongous Alcon brakes, the beautiful twenty-inch Cremona wheels finished in bright silver, and the brushed aluminium side vents. Everywhere you look on this big cat, it flaunts its luxury and power.
Starting at the front of the vehicle, the paintwork is in need of some attention due to some areas of lacquer peel above the front grill on the driver side, and another small area in front of the driver side front wheel. There are the usual stone chips and scratches to be expected of a car with this mileage and original paint. The Jaguar symbol remains present and round and the two front headlights showcase themselves in a lovely manner retaining great clarity and no signs of any cracks or water ingress.
Moving around to the side of the vehicle we get a glimpse of those absolutely massive front and rear brakes hiding (we use that term very loosely here) behind the twenty-inch Cremona wheels which all appear to be in fantastic shape, with only the passenger side rear wheel and the driver side front showing very small signs of paint chipping - but you gotta be up close and personal here. The Alcon calipers behind the wheels still retain their original red paint however could use a fresh coat to bring them back to life.
All of the body panels along the side of the vehicle appear to be nice and straight, with panel gaps which appear to be of factory fitment. The drivers side aluminium vent shows some signs of age through some discolouring - this doesn't appear to be very present on the passenger side vent however.
To the rear of the car we’re greeted with the well loved quad exit exhaust, reminding the car behind you that it’s in the presence of some serious horsepower. The brushed aluminium Jaguar plinth looks to be in lovely condition, as do the XK and R badges located on the boot lid itself. Both tail lights are in great shape with no signs of any cracks or damage and retain a lovely bright red finish to them showing no signs of fade, the same can be said about the spoiler brake light!
There are of course some small imperfections back here from things being put in and taken out of the boot, like any car, however it does appear to be in good overall shape with nothing excessive to note here.

The Mechanics

  • 4.2L Supercharged V8
  • 420bhp and 413lb-ft of torque
  • Rear wheel-drive configuration
  • Automatic transmission
  • 400mm front and 350mm rear brake discs
  • Alcon brake calipers
  • Service book with 8 service stamps
The Portfolio edition Jaguar features the same engine and drivetrain as the standard XKR - after all, its absolutely fantastic, so why change it? The supercharged lump develops a lovely and linear power band which makes it easy to drive as well as predictable, and the automatic gearbox makes driving around busy streets an absolute breeze.
The owner tells us that this car is mechanically well cared for, and performs just as it should being a performance Jag. Services have been kept on top of and MOT’s have always been kept up to date with, replacing any parts which are required to ensure the vehicle is fit for road use. The engine pulls strong with a lovely V8 rumble behind it when you get on the accelerator pedal, and the brakes are sharp and consistent, and you’ll really struggle to push them to their limits thanks to their huge surface area and 6-piston calipers, they’re extremely resilient to brake fade.
Like any big cat, they are an absolute joy to drive, or be ferried around in. Not only do they ooze opulence from the looks and style, but they do for the driving characteristics too, smooth gear changes, lovely and comfortable suspension, and a rather tame driving experience when you’re reserved with the throttle.
You can’t get much better than this. It really is the best of both worlds.

Summary

An XKR Portfolio is quickly becoming an extremely difficult find for any car enthusiast, especially one which hasn’t been hidden away in some collectors stash never to be seen again.
Due to only 60 of these gorgeous automobiles being sold to the UK market, they are a true needle in a haystack, and generally don’t hang around for very long when a nicely preserved one (such as this) pops up for grabs.
