2007 Jaguar XK-R 4.2 Convertible

Highlights

  • Excellent condition throughout
  • Most desirable model from the range
  • Full stainless-steel Milltek exhaust
  • Timing chains replaced

The Appeal

With its rich racing heritage, it is no surprise that Jaguar produces some of the finest British-built performance vehicles on the market, and the XK-R (XK150) is certainly no exception. Boasting a 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, snarling exhaust note and gorgeous all-aluminium bodywork penned by Mr Ian Callum, the XK150 was an instant design classic, and still looks remarkably fresh and up-to-date to this day.
This particular example is a pre-facelift 4.2-litre engined cabriolet, which has benefitted from numerous considerate upgrades, along with having ticked off major service items such as the timing chains, supercharger cooling system pipework and gearbox services, meaning the next owner simply needs to add fuel and set off into the sunset.

History and paperwork

  • V5, showing just 3 former keepers
  • Extensive documentation, with numerous ‘big ticket’ invoices
  • Timing chains replaced at 64,700 miles
First registered in 2008, this fantastic black-over-ivory XK-R remains in excellent condition throughout, having evidently been cherished and cosseted throughout its lifetime. Whilst in the care of the current owner, it has been used as a ‘second car’ and has spent time at their holiday home, along with time in Portugal, as evidenced by several invoices for servicing and tyres whilst out ‘on the continent’ though, it is worth noting, it was never re-registered abroad.
Whilst the full complement of documentation is nothing short of impressive - with a lot of Jaguar OE dealership and specialist invoices within the folder - the most important items are undoubtedly as follows:
  • Timing chain replacement at 64,700 miles miles
  • All of the supercharger cooling pipes, gaskets, fittings and hoses replaced in 2019
  • Gearbox service at 69,000 miles
  • Injector replacement in 2014 at 58,000 miles
In addition to the above, alongside regular servicing, this XK-R also boasts a number of considerate upgrades:
  • US-style ‘one touch’ roof system operated by the key fob, allowing remote raising/lowering of the roof, windows and activation of the locking system
  • Full stainless-steel Milltek exhaust system
  • Upgraded supercharger pulley
  • A&D remap for increased performance
  • Fitment of a tracker
It is also worth noting that the MoT history for the vehicle is squeaky-clean, save for one fail in 2019 due to the condition of both front tyres. Otherwise, there is no other fails or even advisories to note - remarkable!

The Interior

  • Full ivory leather interior
  • Presents very well
  • Original specification throughout - no modifications to interior
On the inside, this XK-R remains exactly as it left the factory, with only some light commensurate wear-and-tear to attest to its use and enjoyment over the years.
Up front, the usual wear is visible to the seat bases and outer bolsters, whilst the carpets along the lower halves of the door cards would perhaps benefit from a thorough shampoo and steam-cleaning to bring them back to their best.
Elsewhere, there are some typical marks to the steering wheel and its inner plastics, along with the other high-traffic areas such as the inner door sills and shifter, but nothing that would not be considered ‘in keeping’ with the rest of the vehicle’s condition.
In the rear, the boot shows virtually no discernible wear, though we have noticed a small hole within the wind deflector.
The vendor reports no known faults with any of the electrical systems, gauges or switchgear, nor any waterproofing issues with the folding roof.

The Exterior

  • Upgraded remote roof mechanism
  • Bodywork in great condition
  • No accident history or damage
Outside, the good news continues, as the Callum-penned lines of this XK150 are undisturbed by the passage of time, with all panel gaps and finishes looking as crisp as the day they left the factory, and no sign of any accident or impact damage that we can see.
As you’d expect, there are some stone chips visible around the vehicle - particularly to the front end, as is typical on a performance vehicle such as this - along with some ‘gravel rash’ visible aft of the wheels along the side skirts.
Looking closer, the headlights are beginning to cloud very slightly, whilst there is a small scuff on the roof above the rear window, along with some creases from being stowed away for an extended period of time. We’d also suggest some of the chrome trims would benefit from a polish, though this is purely an aesthetic concern.
All four wheels are in good condition, though there are some slight marks to note. Tyres are a mix of Pirelli and Michelin items, matched across the axles.

The Mechanics

  • Extensive service history
  • Major works taken care of
  • Ready to jump in and enjoy
Thanks to a programme of preventative maintenance, up-to-date servicing and general care by both the current and previous keepers of the vehicle, this XK-R is in rude mechanical health, and is ready to use as the winning bidder sees fit.
The engine bay, block and ancillaries all present well, though there isn’t much to see on account of the various covers and ‘dress up’ panels fitted to the vehicle. The sound/heat proofing on the bonnet remains in good condition, with no sagging or damage that we can see.
The most recent MoT - dated 08 March 2022 - shows a clean first-time pass with no advisory items.

Summary

Ready to use and enjoy, this mechanically-proven, upgraded and cherished XK-R is almost certain to put a smile on the face of the next owner, especially with the roof down and the gorgeous V8 soundtrack at full chat.
