The Appeal

When your immediate rival steals your thunder, there’s only one thing for it: go one better. The MX5 drew the tanks up on Honda’s traditional turf. The firm’s response: the brilliant S2000.

The S2k didn’t take the MX5 on directly. It was cleverer than that: it played to Honda’s strengths, which meant a zingy, powerful 2L 240bhp engine. But there was a party trick - it revved to 9,000rpm. Reviewers loved it, and so do we.

The early pre-facelift AP1 cars retain that higher red line. This car is tidily presented in silver metallic with a black leather interior. It is an enthusiast-owned car that was acquired by the seller in 2021 from a S2000 specialist.

With all that clever Honda engine tech, the key to S2000 purchase is care and maintenance. This car has been looked after. The history file shows regular servicing, including a replacement timing chain at 93,000 miles. Recent work has included a new hood and refurbished calipers.

The car is factory standard apart from a sonorous Tanabe Medalion cat-back exhaust that the vendor says makes a wonderful noise. With MOT to October 2025, this viscerally thrilling drop top is ready to enjoy.
