The Appeal
If you like your daily driver to be different yet capable, then you’re in the right place. The distinctive Crossfire is a rare sight on British roads. And then there’s this car, the SRT-6 model. A very rare version of a rare car. Just 105 RHD SRT-6s were hand built to order by Karmann in Germany for Chrysler. Karmann’s spent most of the budget raiding the Mercedes parts store, leaving this AMG-honed coupe looking almost exactly like any other Crossfire. Yet this is a Crossfire with a very secret weapon – 330bhp and 0-60 in a supercar-bating 5.4sec.
The Crossfire was born in the rush of enthusiasm that followed the merger of Mercedes Benz and Chrysler. Beneath the skin is a Mercedes SLK. The SRT-6 is essentially a SLK 32AMG, using – as a badge on the car proudly proclaims – a handcrafted version of the supercharged 3.2litre Mercedes AMG V6 engine.
This SRT-6 is a 2007 car from the final year of production and finished in attractive Aero Blue with a black Alcantara and leather interior. It is fitted with a Mercedes DSG automatic gearbox and has covered less than 50,000 miles. Distinctive, rare and with the reassurance of Mercedes oily bits, this is a car to surprise passengers and start car park conversations.

The Interior
- Special Alcantara trimmed leather seats unique to SRT-6 model
- Correct AMG and Karmann badges present
- Electric seats
- Two keys with remote fobs
- Full set of books & manuals
- Reflects low mileage with minimal wear
The Crossfire interior is a particularly pleasant place to be, thanks in part to sharing most of its architecture with the contemporary Mercedes SLK. That means there’s a quality, upmarket feel to things. As befits its performance, the SRT-6 version dials things up inside, starting with those lovely SRT-6 badged dark grey Alcantara and leather seats. They’re heated and electrically operated too. Badges reminding you that this car was handbuilt by Karmann and features a handcrafted AMG Mercedes engine, all reinforcing the sense that this is a Crossfire, but not quite as you know it.
The low mileage of this car is reflected in the condition of the interior. The seats and door cards are unmarked, as are the handles and silver-finish centre console. Carpets in the cabin and boot are also in very good condition. Although this car has had 8 owners, the Seller tells us that several of them simply stored the car and this seems to show in how well the interior has held up over 15 years.
The Exterior
- Attractive Aero Blue paintwork
- 18 inch multi-spoke alloy wheels unique to SRT-6
- Subtle SRT-6 body kit
- Premium brand tyres
- Straight bodywork
The Crossfire is a neat, unfussy and distinctive design that has aged well. There are some nice retro touches like those bonnet strakes and wing vents. Aero Blue is one of the most attractive Crossfire colours and, with the stylish 18inch alloys – shod with premium brand tyres - gives this car some real, understated Q-car presence.
Unlike other Crossfire coupe models, the SRT-6 has a fixed rather than retractable rear spoiler. This, along with the subtle body kit, is the only nod to the car’s performance capabilities.
Like the interior, the bodywork reflects the mileage. There are some stone chips on the vulnerable front bumper and bonnet, there appears to be a small stone chip on the driver’s door and the alloys show signs of slight kerbing. Otherwise the bodywork appears from the photographs to be unmarked and the overall impression is of a car that has been cosseted. The subtle SRT-6 badges are intact and the car even has its standard twin-pipe oblong exhaust trim finishers.
The last MOT had a couple of minor advisories on it for the windscreen wipers and headlamp beam. The Seller tells us that he has rectified the wiper issue. A good headlamp polish kit would resolve the other issue, although their condition in the photographs suggests that the lenses are in good order.
The Mechanics
- ‘Handcrafted’ Mercedes AMG V6 3.2litre 330bhp engine
- Serviced 1,200 miles ago
- MOT to May 2023
- Full service history
- 5spd Mercedes DSG automatic gearbox
All SRT-6s were handbuilt by Karmann for Chrysler in Germany and the car is supplied with its original bill of sale and a breakdown of production numbers.
Beneath the Crossfire metalwork, this car is a Mercedes SLK 32AMG, so not surprisingly it features that firm’s supercharged 3.2litre engine, delivering 330bhp through the rear wheels with the help of a Mercedes DSG automatic gearbox. A badge inside the car indicates that this engine was ‘handcrafted’ by Mercedes AMG. The 32AMG also donated its suspension and brakes to the SRT-6. This is a serious sports car.
A comprehensive history file is available with the car (see photographs) and it has a full service history. It has only covered 1,200 miles since its last service and the MOT runs to May 2023.
Summary
Owning a sports car is all about looks and individuality and on those criteria this very rare car fully delivers. The distinctive Crossfire styling and restrained SRT-6 badging and bodykit cleverly disguise this car’s secret: it’s a 330bhp rocketship.
This example is one of the handful of RHD models sold and has clearly been cared for, the condition reflecting the low mileage and its enthusiast Seller. This is a chance to own a rare performance car that will surprise passengers and delight drivers in equal measure.
