The Appeal
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
We imagine these time-honoured words are plastered around Porsche headquarters and if six decades of 911 production have taught us anything, it's that a good formula is best left well alone. Following the enormous success of the 996, Porsche opted to change relatively little when it came to devising a successor.
Rather than messing with the sublime engine or coming up with an all-new silhouette, Porsche merely fine-tuned an already brilliant car, turning it into what is still regarded as one of the best 911s to date. Even notable 911 sceptic Jeremy Clarkson lauded it with praise. The 997 did away with its predecessor's controversial "fried egg" headlamps, larger wheels were fitted as standard, the bodywork was slightly widened at the rear and a little more power was coaxed from its rear-mounted flat-six.
This 2006 997.1 Carrera S Tiptronic is has been cherished by its current owner since acquiring it in May 2015. With only two registered keepers from new, it boasts an extensive history file, including all MOTs and a full invoice history of expenditure since 2015. The car has been garaged and maintained regardless of cost, making it a reliable and enjoyable weekend toy. A recent major service in February 2024 and a new advisory-free MOT valid until September 2025 ensure that it's ready to enjoy.
