The Appeal
Nobody can quite agree what the Evo’s ‘FQ’ moniker stands for but we can probably all agree that ‘quick’ is part of it. Just as well because the FQ-320 is devastatingly so. Even Autocar was moved to describe it as a ‘hardcore machine.’
The FQ-320 was tweaked by Mitsubishi’s Ralliart in conjunction with turning specialist HKS. Revised induction and intercooler pipework plus upgraded exhaust system delivered a 21bhp hike to 326bhp and a similar increase in torque. The result was 60mph from standstill in a heady 4.4seconds. Supercars beware.
Just 500 FQ-320s are believed to have been sold in the UK, of which only a handful were finished in Ruri Blue like this car. It is a factory-standard, unmodified that has low mileage and full service history. It has clearly been well cared for by its handful of owners.
The car has spent 10 years of its life in Sweden, being repatriated to Northern Ireland by the seller in late 2023. Recently serviced and now equipped with a long MOT to January 2025, this is a well maintained, highly preserved example of one of the greatest of the long Lancer Evo lineage.

The Condition
- Factory standard car in very well preserved condition inside and out
- Highly desired Ruri blue paint work in arguable the best colour for these
- Paintwork recently detailed and is said to be original
- Bodywork presents well with straight panels and few signs of mileage or age
- Hollow rear wing and lighter alloy wheels to reduce weight
- Underside in good order with no stone chip or underseal applied
- 18in Rota wheels in black and in good order with few signs of use
- Carbon front diffuser and aerodynamic side skirt extensions
- Black factory-standard interior with leather and suede Recaro sports seats
- Very light driver’s bolster wear but interior otherwise shows few marks
- Momo steering wheel and carbon dashboard among the factory cabin features
- Fitted with MR Ralliart 3 pod auxiliary gauges and boost controller
- HID headlights as standard on FQ320 model
The joy of this tidy FQ-320 is that it remains factory standard. Finished in stand-out metallic blue it is a pleasing blend of menace and understatement, the carbon diffusers, big rear wing and black wheels competing to create an appealing whole.
The condition inside and out reflects the low mileage and evidently caring owners. There are very few signs of wear - helped by a recent paint detail - and the interior is usefully standard save for the addition of a set of MR Ralliart gauges.
Despite the car’s potency, the FQ-320 can be used daily and around town, helped by the comfortable seats - with big Recaros up front - and neat touches like electric windows, air conditioning and a good sound system.
The Mechanics
- 1,997cc 4G63 tweaked by Ralliart and HKS to deliver 326bhp
- 0-60mph in 4.5secs
- All wheel drive with Bilstein shock absorbers and Active Yaw Control
- 6spd manual gearbox
- Active centre differential
- FQ-320s were fitted with shorter rear springs to improve handling
- Standard boost with cabin controller
- HSD coilovers fitted
- Uprated 6 pot brakes
The IX was the last of the long run of 4G63-engined cars and so has a special place in enthusiasts’ hearts. The FQ-320 retains the urgency and engagement of its forebears, but with the performance dialled up to 11. It was highly regarded by contemporary reviewers, giving buyers supercar levels of capability - if not, in fact, much better - with the practicality of a spacious four door saloon.
The limited-run FQ-320 pumps out 326bhp thanks to tweaks applied by Ralliart and HKS. This car is usefully standard, running on factory boost, but is fitted with uprated brakes and HSD coilovers.
The car’s low mileage is verified by MOTs and servicing records. It comes to market with full service history, including a spell of home servicing by Swedish owners due to the country’s remoteness. It was last serviced 400 miles ago in August 2023 by Mooney Auto Services, a specialist in high-performance cars.
The vendor acquired the car in August 2023 and drive it all the way home from Sweden to Northern Ireland without issue.
