2006 Land Rover Defender 90 TD5

Highlights

  • Desirable TD5 engine
  • Tow ball and pin fitted
  • Sump guard fitted
  • LED headlamps
  • Safari snorkel

The Appeal

Fitted with high quality aftermarket parts, ad solid service history and overall very nice condition, this is a very good example of a a 90 series.

Benefiting from the extra rear seats that can easily be folded away for extra storage in the rear, multiple utilitarian features for a rugged and purposeful look and good evidence toward its care, this is a fine example of an increasingly desirable vehicle.

The History and Paperwork

  • Multiple invoices to back up a solid history
  • Large selection of old test certificates
  • Original booklets and service history folder
A look through the paperwork belonging to this Defender shows that it has had plenty of care with proper servicing and upkeep including some more substantial items including a new clutch master cylinder.

The service book is up to date with stamps up to 2016 but paperwork indicates the servicing schedule has continued since.

The Interior

  • 6 Seater cab with folding rear seats
  • Alcantara headlining
  • Bluetooth stereo upgrade
6 seater Defenders are not all that common making this a little bit different and for some a little more practical too.

With the ability to simply fold the rear seats up, this still allows for a good sized loading bay too. The rear seats are in good nick with some minor tears to the corners or the seat bases but not affecting the usability of the seats.

The floor also has a weatherproof mat in the centre and a bulkhead brace to prevent items sliding forward under braking and vehicle rigidity .
Weatherproof seat covers adorn the front two seats which we can only presume are in good condition underneath and the headlining is a fabulous grey alcantara, all well fitted and clean.

The interior trims and dash are all tidy and clean with no signs of misuse or having a hard life.

The Exterior

  • Nice purposeful exterior features
  • Very good dark green paintwork
  • Glossy black painted wheels shod in BF Goodrich tyres - Gloss black roof
The outside of this defender has been well tended to by its keepers with good straight panels and tidy paint.

The headlamps have been upgraded to LED versions and are backed up with a set of grille mounted spot lamps on a very meaty 'bull bar'.
A safari snorkel setup gives extra wading ability and looks like it was always meant to be there having been properly fitted.

The 'usual' areas of corrosion on vehicles like this seem to be in very good order with really nothing out of the ordinary to note and the areas surrounding fittings and hinges seem almost blemish free, making this very nice example indeed.

The Mechanics

  • Desirable TD5 engine
  • Good condition chassis and solid looking underside - Sump/Diff guard fitted
Under the bonnet things are fairly standard with no modifications short of the snorkel and generally tidy and seemingly leak free with no significant cleaning having been done that may 'hide' anything untoward.

The meaty TD5 engine is adorned with all its original covers and plastics with seemingly no damage.
Underneath is similar, with no evident leaks that we saw from the engine or transmission and just the usual oily residue in places from oil changes or checks through its life.
The steering swivels look in good order too with no excessive grease build up that would indicate wear and all round the tyres have good tread and all match.

Summary

All round a well maintained and very good example of a Defender with just the right amount of modifications to suit most tastes.

With no evidence of having a hard life it can be presumed this motor has rarely seen more than a muddy track and being equipped with the correct engine, tyres and 6 seats will be a solid investment.
