2006 Jaguar XKR convertible x100 Final edition

Highlights

  • Sought after final version of the XKR with S enhancements
  • Very low mileage with excellent service history and just serviced
  • One of only 200 Final Edition 4.2S models produced
  • Long MOT with impeccable test history
  • Beautifully specified and presented 400bhp super convertible

The Appeal

The X100 XK was Jaguar’s first new coupe for over 20 years and it cleverly blended classic nods to the company’s past with a thoroughly modern approach to the business of svelte, smooth conveyance.
The new car was a huge success, particularly when the supercharged XKR was added to the range. To celebrate, in 2005 the firm announced a run of 200 ‘Final Edition’ cars. Badged as 4.2S cars, these models featured exclusive trim and colours and mechanical enhancements to benefit drivability.
This ‘Final Edition’ car combined that desirable specification with a remarkably low mileage. With excellent service and MOT history and an appropriate number plate, it is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable X100s to grace a collection or draw admiration at shows.

Final Edition 4.2S cars unveiled at 2005 Geneva Motor Show, 41 years after the original E-Type:
  • Unique badging featuring chequered flags
  • Carbon interior trim for the XKR
  • Chequered flags on the exclusive sill plates
  • Darkened front and rear lights
  • Leather edged door mats
  • Exclusive Dove carpet finish
  • BBS Perseus split rim alloy wheels
  • Brembo cross drilled brakes
  • Red brake calipers
  • Firmer springs, dampers and anti roll bars
  • 10% sharper steering
  • 10mm lowered ride height

The Interior

  • Well presented Final Edition XKR interior with high specification and carefully preserved
  • Cream leather seats which retain their suppleness and show barely any indication of wear
  • Exclusive Final Edition Dove carpet trim
  • Dark carbon fibre dashboard and door trim
  • High end Alpine stereo with sat nav system and boot-mounted CD changer
  • Oft-used trim areas such as seats, door handles and so on show no marks or scuffs
  • Roof tonneau cover neatly folded in the boot
  • Small rear seats appear to have been unused
  • Chrome rimmed dials
  • Electric memory seats with heating
During Jaguar’s hegemony in the late 50s and early 60s the firm’s interiors were as much of a selling point as the cars’ performance. The firm wisely chose to note this for the new X100 and as a result it has surely one of the most rewarding interiors of any car from the last 25 years. Sitting comfortably in the cosseting leather seats you could be nowhere else but in a Jaguar.
The Final Edition cars like this one got extra features that build on what is already an exquisite place to be. The R models got dark carbon fibre trim to replace the swathes of wood and there is a unique trim Dove colour option for the carpets. It is very well appointed with electric and heated seats, high end Alpine stereo and an infotainment system.
This low mileage car is impeccably presented with barely any indications of use or age. The light cream seats are in excellent condition with supple leather and no identifiable wear on the oft-visited bolster and base areas. Likewise the door trims and switchgear which present much as they surely would have looked the day this car left the showroom.

The Exterior

  • Attractive Frost Blue metallic paintwork was one of the four exclusive options for the Final Edition cars
  • Excellent bodywork and trim reflects the low mileage and caring owners
  • Purposeful 20in split rim BBS Perseus alloy wheels in excellent condition with no visible marks or kerbing
  • Red wheel centres exclusive to the Final Edition cars
  • Factory specification Pirelli P Zero tyres fitted in 2021 with few miles since
  • Distinctive quad exit pipes
  • Smoked front and rear lights exclusive to the Final Edition cars
  • Discreet XKR trim including bonnet vents and small rear spoiler
  • Parking sensors
  • Blue fabric roof in very good condition with clear panel and no visible marks or creases
The X100 neatly blended nods to Jaguar’s past with a very modern design that still looked good in 2006, 10 years after the first cars rolled off the line. The supercharged models took a very Jaguar approach in their discreet addenda - only small bonnet vents and rear spoiler differentiate these 400bhp models from their lower powered siblings.
This car is finished in Frost Blue, one of the four exclusive colours reserved for the Final Edition cars. It sits purposefully on its equally exclusive 20in split rim BBS Perseus alloy wheels while the smoked front and rear lights add extra drama. The effect, completed by the dark blue roof, is of a very pretty and well specified car.
It is also, as you might expect given the low mileage, in superb condition. Even the wheels are unmarked and unkerbed. The bodywork is very straight with none of the parking dings or chips you might expect from a car if this age and we could not identify any scratches or scuffs across any of the panels.

The Mechanics

  • 4.2litre AJ-8 Jaguar V8 engine with supercharger developing 400bhp
  • 0-60mph in 5secs
  • 6spd ZF 6HP26 automatic gearbox with Jaguar J-gate allowing clutchless sequential shifting
  • Low mileage verified by service records and excellent MOT history
  • Final Edition S models got firmer suspension and sharper steering and were 10mm lower
  • Red brake calipers and Brembo cross-drilled brakes
The appeal of the X100 XKR has never been purely skin deep. With its smooth, supercharged AJ-8 V8 engine, it is as devastatingly quick as it is beautiful. Later cars like this one got the 4.2litre capacity motor which improved torque.
The 4.2S was limited to 200 cars and went beyond desirable cosmetic enhancements. These cars were lowered by 10mm and got stiffer suspension and sharper steering.
This very low mileage car comes with a fine run of service stamps, most recently attended to in 2023 at 13,800 miles. The MOT history is similarly impeccable with only three advisories on any of its annual tests across 14 years.

Summary

The X100 firmly re-established Jaguar’s territory in the sports coupe market, blending considerable performance with sinuous looks and a beautiful interior. It was a huge success, something that the Final Edition cars celebrate. Just 200 were available, offering cosmetic and mechanical enhancements that make these models particularly desirable.
This very low mileage 4.2S Final Edition is nicely specified in Frost Blue and is in superb condition. With equally good service and MOT history it would be a very tempting and capable addition to any driveway.
