The Appeal

The X150 generation of Jaguar XK saw Jaguar unveil their wonderful new V8 powerplant – their first eight since the Daimler 250 and marked a return to form for the brand. Featuring 32-valves and a 4.2-litre capacity the engine offered a beefy 300bhp and a top speed limited to 155mph.

Designed by the legendary Ian Callum the new XK coupe had big boots to fill taking over from the XJS and the sinuous shape managed to pay homage to the lineage without losing any of the elegance. It was launched in Geneve in March 1996 and remained in production until 2014.

The second generation of the model arrived in 2006, with the convertible iteration arrived in

While the F-Type is seen as the replacement, its lack of rear seats makes it more of a sports tourer and the practicality of the four-seater grand tourer XK has been lost.

This example has been in pampered ownership and its previous four owners have spared no expense in keeping it in excellent condition. The Slate Mica paintwork really suits the muscular lines of the car and offsets the sumptuous Caramel leather interior beautifully. It’s already for a new owner to enjoy.

  • Electric memory front seats with no rips to bolsters
  • Leather looks excellent throughout vehicle
  • Original airbag leather steering wheel is in good condition
  • Dashtop leather is unmarked and in good order
  • Walnut trim to dash and centre console hasn’t faded and is uncracked
  • Upgraded Alpine speakers linked to OE sat nav head unit
  • Supplied with two key fobs and offers push-button starting
The Caramel leather interior with perforated centre panels to the seats looks stunning and really lifts the interior of this XK with every driver control gliding into position effortlessly at the touch of a button. The driver and passenger seats are unmarked and each has three memory positions as well as adjustable lumbar and side bolsters. It’s easy to get comfortable and if you’re used to a harsh riding German GT, the smooth riding Jaguar will be something of a revelation.

Dark walnut trim blends with matt aluminium accents to give a pleasing retro modern look to the interior and all the wood trim (and it’s real walnut not fake plastic) is in fine condition.

Black overmats have been used to protect the Caramel overcarpets and these are in good order. The trim is all in fine condition on this Big Cat.

There are rear seats that are best suited to children or perhaps briefly for adults, which add to the practicality of this luxury tourer.

  • Grey metallic ‘Slate Mica’ paintwork presents well and is in good order with only minor marks
  • Minor scuff to lower offside edge of front bumper and minor marks to edge of grille
  • Electric roof works fine and operated smoothly at the touch of a button
  • Roof fabric looks to be in excellent order inside and out
  • Crack to passenger side edge of windscreen
  • Rear tyres are matching Pirelli P Zero in 285/30 ZR20 size both dated 2022 with ample tread
  • Front tyres are matching Pirelli P Zero 235/35 ZR20 size dated 2021 with plenty of tread
  • Spare wheel is a Pirelli in 135/80 R18 size and the full wheel change kit is present
Silvers and greys really suit Jaguars and this one is no exception, with the Slate Mica paintwork offering a deep lustre that really shows off the haunches of this convertible. It’s a fabulous looking car and the paintwork presents well with only a few minor marks – on the grille edge and lower front bumper edge – to note. The windscreen has a crack in it that is around three inches long (not in the driver’s line of view) and would benefit from replacement.

The light lenses all appear to be in good order and free from cracks, while the wheels all feature good condition and fairly recent Pirelli P Zero tyres. The alloys themselves are unkerbed and have excellent paintwork and smart red Jaguar cat centre caps.

The roof fabric was in equally good condition and actuated smoothly without complaint despite the chilly conditions on the photoshoot.

The Mechanics

  • Engine bay looks smart and all original
  • Powered by a 385bhp 4.2-litre V8 engine
  • 6-speed ZF automatic transmission
  • Engine started up easily and was exceptionally quiet and civilised
  • Pleasant V8 burble from the exhaust isn’t intrusive
  • Six-speed automatic gearbox seemed to select gears fine and has been fully serviced in July 2022
It moved around effortlessly for the duration of the photoshoot with a pleasing understated burble from the twin tailpipes. It’s just waiting for a new owner to enjoy this elegant grand tourer convertible that can seat four in luxurious comfort.
