2006 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 Sovereign

Highlights

  • Incredible sparkling metallic paint
  • Interior looks almost new
  • Creamy 3 litre V6

The Background

Being developed when Jaguar was part of Ford’s Premier Automotive Group meant there was lots of money to spend getting the X Type right. It marked many firsts for the company, the first estate, first diesel, first front wheel and all wheel drive and made a strong entry into the compact executive saloon market.

Jaguar’s classic styling made it stand out from the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class it was selling against and the ride and handling were extremely well engineered.

The History

The current owner of this X Type wasn't planning on buying this or indeed any car when his car dealer friend showed it to him, but despite his devotion to Volvos the Jag wowed him and he bought it on the spot!

That was in 2018 and he has enjoyed owning and using it since, keeping it serviced and maintained but now finds it isn’t being used enough to justify keeping it.

The Paperwork

In the booklet folder we find the full book pack of manuals and service log, showing that until 2017 it was first in the Jaguar main dealer network before moving to independent marque specialists.

Maintenance has continued with a trusted garage who have taken care of other tasks such as re-gassing the air conditioning, replacing a lambda sensor,

The Interior

Step inside and the cabin is in amazing condition, the wood and leather give a feel of quality and luxury. The cream leather seats have almost no wear or signs of use, The front seats are electric, the driver’s being a memory seat. Matching the cream door cards which are also like new. A darker tan than the seats, the carpets and carpet mats have no marks and virtually no heel wear.

It has lovely wood in the dash and doors, it has a delightful grain and superb glossy lacquer. It extends to the lower console, gear knob and part leather, part wood steering wheel.

The headlining is good but the A post trim has started to wrinkle off on both sides.

It's well featured with Climate Control, Cruise Control, Sat Nav, Voice Activation, Multi changing CD player, Bluetooth and "J" Type Gear Shift.

The Exterior

The deep metallic blue of the paint has a stunning fleck to it which sparkles in the sun. It almost looks black from some angles but move slightly and the mica catches and the blue explodes.

It is generally in excellent condition, however there are a couple of small marks with would possibly polish out, and a couple of very small chips. The panels are immaculate beneath the paintwork with no signs of damage or corrosion.

Equipped with rear parking sensors and heated front windscreen.
The 17” alloys are all blemish free, with good tyres all round, however the paint on one has started to bubble around the valve.
A common issue is the window glass to body seals coming apart, but these have been replaced.

Mechanics

With low miles and a full history it's no surprise the engine runs well and the owner tells us the 3 litre V6 has plenty of power and the automatic gearbox shifts smoothly.

Looking under the car and around the engine bay there are no signs of fluid leaks from any area, or of accident damage and the chassis and floor look to be in good condition.

The appeal

These are beautiful looking cars whos retro styling has aged incredibly well since being released, and in this dark metallic blue really stands out This example has only covered 65,000 miles and the condition is as good as you would hope and expect. Being the three litre V6 it has plenty of power and smooth delivery.
