The Appeal
The exquisite Sport 1000 Monoposto was that rare moment in motorcycling, bringing together at it did the verve and capability of the Ducati brand with gorgeous café racer styling influenced by Mike Hailwood’s TT racers.
Beautiful and, thanks to a Ducati 992cc vertical twin, exciting to ride, only a select few buyers got a chance to own one of these bikes. Today they are sought after and many are in high end collections around the world.
For much of its life, this was one of them. One of the first Monopostos built, it is finished in stand-out Imola Yellow it is an exceptionally low mileage bike that spent the first 10 years of its life in a USA collection. Imported to the UK and with one owner ever since, it has clearly been highly cherished.
Recently serviced and equipped with a long, advisory-free MOT, this is a bike that is the Holy Grail of two-wheeled motoring: rare, beautiful and brutally capable. Just 40 examples are believed to be in the UK and this must surely be one of the best, if not the best. For discerning collectors, this is a fantastic opportunity.

The Sport 1000 was inspired by the 1973 Ducati 750 Sport and the closely related 750 Imola Desmo, both of which took the classic look of the single seater café racers that evolved from the Ace Café and Brighton Run scenes.
The specification included a two valve 1000DS motor and trellis tube frame with suspension comprising three way adjustable single rear shock and non-adjustable 43mm Marzocchi forks. Early ‘Monoposto’ examples like this one featured a 60mm section asymmetric swingarm with stacked mufflers on the right side, low clip-on handlebars and a dry clutch.
This bike is largely factory standard, but benefits from a mouthwatering array of upgrades. These include an aftermarket Speedymoto dry clutch, Ohlins rear shock, Termignoni exhaust slip-ons, new fuel cap, billet bar risers and crash bungs.
