Highlights
- Desirable and rare coupe model
- Well maintained & cared for
- Drives brilliantly and without fault
- 3L straight six with a manual gearbox
The Appeal
Following in the wake of the rather successful Z3, the first generation of Z4 certainly had big shoes to fill. Fortunately, the Z4 met its aspirations, providing a much larger, more rigid, and better-equipped platform than its older brother.
The coupe variant takes these improvements even further, boasting an even stiffer chassis and larger entry-level engine. The coupe is also considerably rarer than its roadster counterpart, accounting for less than 20,000 of the total production figure. As a result, it’s quite a desirable vehicle, with enthusiasts on the search for well-maintained examples.
This particular Z4 Coupe has been very well maintained throughout its life and now presents itself with just over 77k on the clock. It offers an excellent opportunity to own one of the few modern enthusiast-oriented BMWs, and a car that will no doubt continue to impress for years to come.
The History and Paperwork
- 8 former keepers
- Previous Cat D
- Just over 77k on the clock
- Well maintained & regularly serviced
- Serviced in May 2022
- Dependable weekend toy
This Z4 has no doubt been enjoyed throughout its time on the road, having covered just over 77k with 8 former keepers as noted on the V5. Over the years, it would appear the vehicle has required rather little in the way of major repairs, instead needing only the expected consumables, and regular servicing as noted by the included BMW service booklet.
Included alongside the BMW service booklet is the rest of the original booklet pack, the V5C document ready to sign over, and a collection of previous invoices.
It should be noted that this vehicle was previously recorded as a Category D in 2015, for damage to the rear right corner. As the photos will reflect, the vehicle has obviously been repaired to a high standard and is now said to show no noticeable sign of the previous incident.
The Interior
- Heated leather seats
- Electronic seat adjustment
- Seat memory functions
- 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel
- Excellent condition
A quick peek into the interior reveals a sleek cabin packed with welcome comforts, and arguably far greater build quality than what can be found in the Z3. Perhaps most notable are the heated leather seats, which are electronically adjustable with memory options. The seats are also clearly designed with the enthusiast in mind, providing a very supportive shape that instils confidence through the corners.
As the images reflect, the seats present themselves rather well for the mileage covered, with the driver’s seat of course showing the majority of the wear found in the cabin. That being said, the wear is hardly anything out of line with what you’d expect with 77k’s worth of use, and doesn’t detract from the seat’s overall function. The passenger seat, on the other hand, has clearly seen far less use, and subsequently shows fewer wear marks.
Carpeting throughout the vehicle also appears to have been well cared for over the years, with behind-the-seats being a rather impressive reminder. The sleek headliner seemingly follows suit and helps the cabin retain its performance-focused styling.
In fact, other than the expected minor signs of use, the only other notable sign of age worth mentioning is the brushed metal gear surround trim, which now shows a few minor marks. However, this can be rectified without much hassle and is hardly of concern when you’re busy opening up the 3L straight-six on a twisty road.
The Exterior
- Excellent condition
- Rare Z4 coupe styling
- Refurbished wheels
- Previously repaired
The Z4 coupe is one of those vehicles that reveals its nature simply through its design. The sleek front end gives way to a very muscular, well-stanced rear end that just screams rear-wheel-drive power. It’s a design that’s clearly taken inspiration from the old Z3 but has been dramatically enhanced with modern angles.
As the photographs reflect, the vehicle presents itself very well for its age and does the design proud. Although the vehicle was previously repaired towards the rear right corner, the grey paintwork now seemingly shows only a few minor signs of age and use.
Perhaps most notable are a few minor marks to the rear right arch, and also a few minor marks to the edge of the driver’s door. There are also the usual front-end marks and minor signs of age showing with badging, although this is to be expected after 16 years on the road.

Complementing the gorgeous metallic paintwork is a set of freshly refurbished alloy wheels, which look fantastic as you would expect. The wheels are wrapped in a mixed set of tyres, with nearly new Michelin Pilot Sport 4s on the front.
The Mechanics
- 3L straight-six
- 6-speed manual
- New tyres
- Good brakes
- Recent aircon system overhaul
- Serviced in May
Few combinations hit the spot quite like a 3L straight six and 6-speed manual gearbox. And then you add the Z4 coupe’s rigidity, short wheelbase handling charms and rear wheel drive configuration? Bliss.
Buyers will be pleased to know that this Z4 fires up right away and happily performs without a single known fault. As previously mentioned, the vehicle has seemingly been rather dependable over the years, requiring only regular servicing and light maintenance. That being said, recent items to note include new brakes, new tyres and an aircon system overhaul.
With no known faults to note and a recent service in May, this Z4 requires nothing to be enjoyed, and is good to go!
Summary
The Z4 Coupe is one of the few modern-age vehicles that is clearly produced with the enthusiast in mind. You’re treated to a 3L straight-six with plenty of character, and a manual 6-speed gearbox to accompany it. Pair these components with the rear-wheel drive configuration and the coupe’s advantageous rigidity improvements, and you’ve got plenty of fun on your hands.
This example has also been well maintained over the years, receiving the expected regular servicing and care. The car now presents itself in excellent condition both inside and out, and offers fault-free performance for the next lucky owner.
With nothing required to be enjoyed out on the road, this Z4 Coupe begs to be driven.
