HIGHLIGHTS
- Genuine 30,533 miles from new
- One owner from new
- Full service history
- Unbeatable luxury
- Fabulous specification
THE APPEAL
Back when it was new, this British-built super-saloon would have set its original owner back over £120,000, making it one of the most expensive saloon cars in the world.
Based on the platform of the Continental GT and sharing its thumping 552bhp twin-turbocharged W12 engine, the Spur was Bentley’s luxury flagship. Today, it has to be one of the most incredible luxury bargains going – finely engineered and opulently equipped, you can now enjoy the finest in motoring for a fraction of the original cost.
This one has to be one of the best Spurs on the market right now thanks to its minimal mileage, having covered just over 30,500 miles from new in the hands of one chauffeur-driven owner. If you want to try one for size, here’s an opportunity not to pass up.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Full main dealer history
- Only one previous owner
- Supplied new Bentley Hadley Green in Barnet
- Owners’ manuals
- Low mileage
- UK V5C
- MOT to be renewed on sale
- Private plate not included in sale
THE INTERIOR
- Portland Beige leather
- Titanium highlights
- Dark walnut veneers
- Excellent condition
- Rear sun blind
- Deep pile mats
Opulence is the name of the game here, and inside the Flying Spur is every inch the luxury car you expect it to be. It has quilted Portland Beige leather seats and separate climate and audio controls for front and rear passengers. The climate control is still icy cold, too – a welcome relief seeing as we took the photographs on one of the hottest days of the year. The Bentley kept its cool throughout.
It’s supremely comfortable and sumptuously equipped, right down to an electric rear blind that rises out of the back bulkhead at the push of a button.
THE EXTERIOR
- Cypress Grey Metallic
- Excellent throughout
- Seven-spoke 20-inch alloys
- Unmarked load bay
Cypress Grey is one of the smartest colours for the Flying Spur and manages to hide the car’s enormous bulk quite cleverly, the rounded lines and discreet colour making it appear smaller in the photos than it is in the metal.
It’s in great condition, with no notable damage or deterioration to the car’s bodywork at all – it’s spotless, having been garaged all its life and kept free from any sun or tree sap damage.
The only area that the next owner may want to improve is the wheels. They look fine from a distance but up close all have received small scuff or kerb marks at some point during their lives and would benefit from some light refurbishment.
THE MECHANICS
- 6.0-litre W12
- Impeccable service history
- Drives beautifully
The Bentley’s 552bhp W12 engine, developed from two VW V6s, is an incredible feat of engineering and sounds like nothing else when you open it up, yet at idle it’s so refined that its barely audible. It has been serviced mostly by main dealers other than one inspection by a well-known independent Bentley specialist, so it’s no surprise to find that it runs beautifully with all the fluids at the prescribed levels and no untoward noises.
We were able to conduct a test drive in the car and can confirm that it drove beautifully on test, with no apparent problems with any of the steering, suspension, brakes or running gear.
The power delivery is incredible – swift yet super-smooth, with a choice of fully automatic or manually operated paddle-shift controls.
SUMMARY
As saloon cars go, the Bentley Flying Spur has to be up there with the very best in the world and this is a remarkable example, well-loved and scrupulously maintained throughout its life, with a comprehensive, documented history. It’s an incredible amount of car for the money.
