2005 Maserati 4200 GT Manual

  • Just over 39,000 miles displayed
  • Backed by an extensive history file demonstrating judicious service history
  • Advisory-free MOT valid until August 2024

The Appeal

Maserati really do know how to make a car special. A flourish of gorgeous body lines, impeccable craftsmanship and a glorious thumping great engine in the front. The marque has certainly had some hits over the years and the grand touring, coupe market is where they really shine.
The early 2000s saw generous investment from Ferrari, allowing the brand to create something on top form. Cue the 4200GT. Ticking all the boxes that make a Maserati so special, the successor to the 3200GT gave buyers a slice of Italian exotica without the exorbitant price tag, and on the used market, stands as a truly great buy.
A wonderful grey over black and grey factory spec with an incredibly rare manual transmission, this 2005 model is an undoubtedly great example of the rapidly appreciating modern classic, and, backed by a solid history file, presents as a wonderful candidate to enter into the world of Maserati ownership.

Recognising what a fine example this is, the vendor had intended to keep the car although it falling victim to the ULEZ charge has promoted them to sell. A recent period of careful storage in a dehumidified, dry garage has ensured that it is beautifully preserved, with the reassurance of a fresh advisory-free MOT demonstrating that this Maserati is eminently worthy of your consideration.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered 25/01/2005
  • Supplied with a substantial history file dating back to the car's very early life which is testament to the care of its owners
  • Accompanied by the Maserati book pack containing various pieces of operating literature and owners manuals
  • Numerous, regular stamped services corroborate the low displayed mileage
  • Current MOT valid with no advisories until August 2024
  • Collection of invoices for work undertaken by both Maserati main dealers and independent Maserati specialists, namely Bill McGrath Maserati LTD
  • V5 registration document present with the car
  • Under its current ownership the car has been kept in a specialised dehumidified storage facility to preserve it in its best form
  • Having entered storage shortly after the last service was performed, the car has not required a further service during the intervening period
The documented service history is as follows:
  • 1/9/2005 at 3,690 miles
  • 28/8/2006 at 6,662 miles
  • 24/9/2007 at 11019 miles
  • 24/9/2008 at 15,204 miles
  • 28/9/2009 at 16,664 miles
  • 21/10/2010 at 19,134 miles
  • 31/10/2011 at 21,254 miles
  • 8/8/2013 at 24,418 miles
  • 17/2/2015 at 27,315 miles
  • 17/2/2016 at 29,113 miles
  • 3/3/2017 at 30,333 miles
  • 6/3/2018 at 32,123 miles
  • 1/5/2019 at 32,970 miles
  • 6/7/2020 at 34,773 miles
With a history of regular servicing which is carefully documented, this 4200 GT has clearly been cherished. The vendor had intended to keep this car long-term, although it unfortunately fell victim to the ULEZ charge, initially prompting less frequent use and now, reluctantly, sale. Owing to careful recent storage and sparing usage, the last service was performed in July 2020 at 34,773 miles. The odometer now reads just 39,253 miles and a fresh advisory-free MOT demonstrates that it remains in rude health.

The Interior

  • Well presented interior space in desirable black and grey colour scheme
  • Good size cabin ideal for touring, including spacious rear passenger section
  • Two tone black and grey leather sports seating front and rear in great shape
  • Light patina demonstrated on drivers upper bolster

  • Maserati infotainment screen and switchgear cluster with contrasting metal fascia
  • Some of the interior switchgear presents with more apparent signs of wear and blemishing, but as we understand this does not affect their operation

  • Memory functions on drivers electric seat
  • Well sized carpeted boot area which holds some factory Maserati tools in their bespoke baggage
  • Clean well fitting headliner

  • Simple, effortlessly classy dark grey paintwork in great, presentable condition
  • External trim and badging is of a high quality throughout
  • Four excellent seven spoke Maserati alloy wheels reside at ground level and look to be in fine fettle
  • Panel gaps appear straight and consistent across the car
  • Some light marking commensurate with age can be noted around the bodywork along with a small patch of bubbling can be seen around the nearside tail light
  • Glass work is in good clean shape
  • Iconic Maserati front grille piece with quality chrome embellishments
  • An entirely well preserved and smartly presented example of a timeless Maserati GT

The Mechanics

  • Glorious 4.2 litre V8 engine with heavy Ferrari influence
  • In great overall mechanical order
  • Just over 39 thousand miles displayed
  • Engine and engine bay present very cleanly
  • V8 is mounted to an increasingly rare factory six speed manual transmission
  • The car fires into life comfortably and with ease, providing an exceptional V8 soundtrack on idle and acceleration
  • The vendor reports a wonderful drive from the car. Both refined and powerful, with smooth, crisp gear changes
  • Well maintained throughout its life by both Maserati main dealers an independent specialists

Summary

When it comes to exotic grand tourers, seldom comes close to the quality of a Maserati. The marque has some truly excellent offerings and one of the go to cars at present is the 4200GT, and for good reason. Taking the successes of the 3200GT and building on them with a wonderful dose of Ferrari influence, it was always going to be a special car and is quickly building itself a reputation as a top tier Italian modern classic.
The example we have here, with just over 39 thousand miles on the clock, is well presented both from an aesthetic and mechanical standpoint and alongside a comprehensive history file, comes with the incredibly desirable manual transmission. If you’re after a piece of great value exotic Italian motoring, look no further.
