The Appeal
The simply named G4 was initially factory built by Land Rover to celebrate its participation in the 2003 G4 Challenge. When the Discovery 3 arrived, private buyers of new vehicles only had access to a range of G4 dealer options created to run alongside the vehicle’s participation in the 2006 event.
But this is not one of those. It is a genuine factory G4 that was used on the actual event, participating in the 2006 Bolivian event and driven by the South Africa, Argentina and Brazil Teams. Naturally it is finished in distinctive Tangiers Orange and equipped with the sort of high end offroad features such a hard-working vehicle needs.
Now back in the UK, it has had just five keepers through its adventurous life, the current one since 2010. The condition reflects its fascinating history - good news we think - but it is very solid and presentable and carries a long current MOT. The servicing and maintenance has been kept up to date using main dealers and marque specialists. Recent work has included a new air compressor, new rear calipers and replacement brake pads front and rear. It was last serviced in March 2024.
This is no ordinary Discovery 3. With its incredible history and experiences, this genuine factory G4 it will surely appeal to real enthusiasts of this go-anywhere marque.

The vendor has provided this fascinating commentary on its 2006 escapades:
“Landrover Discovery 3 G4 Genuine G4 vehicle used on the 2006 G4 competition. It was driven by the South Africa, Argentina and Brazil Teams. Martin Dreyer from South Africa was the winner of the 2006 G4 competition. Participated in Stage Four 14th - 20th May 2006.
“The Stage Start includes a convoy to Potosi, which is the highest city in the world, at over 4000 metres altitude. The scenery on this Stage is dramatic and incredibly varied – canyons, butts, sand and salt lakes. The remote Altiplano villages are inhabited by friendly locals in the bowler hats and brightly coloured blankets. The stage highlight is definitely The Salar de Uyuni – the world's largest salt lake. The 2006 Land Rover G4 Challenge Final takes place on the last day of competition. This is when the top four competitors go head-to-head to find the ultimate winner!”
