The Interior

  • Dove Grey leather upholstery

  • Alpine sound system – radio, cassette and CD changer
  • Heated, electrically adjustable seats (2 memory function on driver’s side)
  • Electric windows and mirrors
  • Air conditioning with front and rear demisters
With its smart Dove Grey leather upholstery and matching carpets, the cabin of this XKR feels light, airy and luxurious. The leather itself all appears to be in very good condition. There’s a little creasing and slight wear evident on the front seats, but the rear looks almost immaculate. We couldn’t see any evidence of damage or significant wear. We’re told by the vendor that the driver’s side headrest adjuster needs attention, but otherwise the seats are in excellent order.
Similarly, the carpets look in very good condition, with no staining or damage visible. Just last year, the vendor tells us that they had a new headlining fitted, so that is naturally well affixed and in superb condition.
Looking at the dashboard, the carbon fibre fascia presents well, while all the buttons, controls and instruments look to be in very nice condition. There are a few minor blemishes and marks from use, as befits the car’s age and mileage, but nothing out of the ordinary. The sill plates are the correct ‘checker flag’ design, as expected in these final edition models. In general, everything from the driving controls to the door trims and plastic elements in the cabin has been nicely preserved. We’re informed by the vendor that all of the features and functions of the car operate just as they should.
The commodious boot is trimmed out in a darker grey carpet, but shows no evidence of damage or staining. A spacesaver spare wheel is present under the carpet, while the owner tells us that the original toolkit is present and correct.

The Exterior

  • Metallic Quartz Grey
  • 20” factory-fitted alloys
  • Unique final edition badging
With its glittering metallic Quartz Grey finish, this XKR is a very handsome beast indeed. Always a well-proportioned and cleverly detailed car, this metallic shade of grey suits is perfectly and really shows off the vehicle’s voluptuous lines. As far as we can tell, the paint is in excellent condition, with a few minor blemishes, but no significant marks or damage we could identify.
Much the same can be said for the bodywork itself, with smooth, undamaged panels and no signs of corrosion we could discern. All of the glass, lenses and trim elements appear to be intact, undamaged and in good order, with the correct white badge displayed prominently on the nose.
Underneath the floors and drivetrain elements look to be undamaged and straight. Apparently, there has been some preventative welding carried out on the passenger side floor pan, the factory double skin arrangement being removed and a new plate installed. This is a common fail point on these cars, so is a sensible enhancement. Other than a little surface corrosion to some drivetrain elements, it all looks very clean and there are no corrosion issues flagged on the MOT history.
The car rides on the correct 20” split-rim BBS ‘Sepang’ wheels. They’re a handsome multi-spoke design and here are presented in fine condition, with no obvious kerb damage or lacquer peel. They’re wrapped in low profile Dunlop tyres which appear to have good levels of tread.

The Mechanics

  • 4,196cc supercharged V8
  • 6-speed ZF automatic transmission
  • Brembo performance brakes
The powerplant that lurks under the bonnet of this X100 is a real bruiser – a 400bhp / 408lb-ft supercharged V8 that delivers its power in huge waves to the rear axle. Make no mistake, this is a proper British muscle car. Yet, when you want to simply cruise, you’ll find the XKR a most accommodating partner.
Few cars are able to pull off this kind of Jekyll and Hyde transformation, but the XKR manages it well. This ‘S’ model benefits from factory-fitted Brembo performance brakes front and rear, as well as firmer springs, dampers and anti-roll bars over the standard model.
According to the vendor, it delivers a fantastic ride and driving experience, with no smoke, leaks, untoward noises or mechanical issues they are aware of.

Summary

The automotive equivalent of a heavyweight boxer in a tailored suit, the XKR 4.2S is probably the ultimate expression of the X100 platform.
This beautifully specified and well maintained example offers everything you could want – comfort, luxury and vast wells of power at the prod of a toe.
