The Appeal

When the XK8 was launched in 1996 it was possibly one of the best looking cars on the market, with design elements that hark back to the E-Type with its long sweeping bonnet and low slung nose. The simple and elegant design has aged well since its introduction and still looks beautifully timeless today.
The first generation of the XK, the X100, would run from 1996-2005. In 2005 Jaguar unveiled this, the XK8 4.2S, as a final hurrah for the X100 body style. It was available in four new limited edition exterior colours, including Frost Blue Metallic as we see here, and featured flag emblems on the door treadplates and Jaguar badge and darkened rear light clusters. The rarity of these models only adds to their allure and this low mileage example is presented in fine condition.

The History and Paperwork

  • The story of this X100 XK8 starts at the Coventry factory
  • Looking at the service book it would go straight to Wales, where it would be looked after by Stratstone Jaguar Cardiff until 2014.
  • In the first 10 years of its life the car covered under 15,000 miles
  • In 2015 it moves up to the North of England, or Leeds to be precise, where once again it is looked after by Jaguar main dealers
  • The most recent stamp in the service book is from Sturgess Jaguar Leicester which took place in February
  • The car has never completed more than 8,000 miles between a services.
  • The service book and online MOT files will also help prove that the mileage on the odometer is genuine
  • Now we have looked at its geographical location and usage over the past 16 years it is now time to delve into some of the invoices that form its history folder.
  • In June of 2016, it goes in for its 11 year service and MOT. It gets new brake fluid and also has 2 brand new (genuine Jaguar) front brake callipers fitted. Totalling over £2,000
  • It also receives a new aerial assembly to replace a damaged unit
  • Some small, assorted works are carried out during the 2017 service.
  • In 2018 it once again goes in for a service in June, where it gets some bulbs changed and a new tyre
  • Recent work to the car includes a Major Service at Jaguar Main Dealers in February 2022. It has also had new damper bushes and a brake overhaul this year so is ready to go and enjoy
  • Along with the invoices, you will also find some lovely Jaguar original handbooks and QuickStart guides.
  • It is now time for you to add to this car’s history. With its good looks and fun driving characteristics you will have no problem creating many happy memories at the helm of this big cat.

The Interior

  • Lots of factory fitted extras
  • Beautifully wood veneer
  • Factory supplied tonneau with storage bag
The interior of any Jaguar is an incredibly important feature, as the brand is just as much about comfort as it is about performance. So, when the X100 XK was launched it was vital that the interior was comfortable and filled with modern tech. Luckily, this end of the line XK8 4.2S is presented with a lovely interior filled will leather, intricate wood veneer, and a lot of toys to play with.
Starting with the Ivory leather seats we can see that these are presented in very good condition. Lighter leathers can be a magnet for jean stains or other marks, however none of the seats show any rips or tears. There is some slight wear to the driver’s side bolster, but it is quite minimal as you can see in the photographs.
It must also be noted that these Ivory leather seats are both electrically operated and also heated, also the windscreen is heated, making it a perfect all year round kind of car.
This car was filled with optional extras when it left the Jaguar factory in 2005. These include the sat nav (which still works well, displaying the location of the car correctly), cruise control, the leather embossed seats, polished aluminium sill places, rear parking sensors, and a CD multi-changer which is found in the boot. Lots of expensive extras in the day that all still appear to work well today.
With this being a convertible XK8 the best feature will obviously be the electrically operated fabric roof. On the inside, the condition is good, with no staining.
Reaching down into the centre console you find the magic button that will transform the interior. Once you press and hold this button the motors spring into life. The roof concertinas in a quick time and stows behind the rear passenger seats. Upon the roof retracting you can cover it up with the factory original tonneau cover. With this roof retracted it turns the sporty and focused interior into a nice and airy cabin that allows you to take in the V8 soundtrack from the twin exhausts.
The interior of this Jag is the place to be this summer, with the roof down it provides a sense of theatre that new cars just can’t create. You will be able to create many happy memories within the interior of this XK8

The Exterior

  • Presented in the limited Edition Metallic Frost Blue
  • The fabric roof has no rips, tears, or pulls
  • The alloy wheels are in lovely unmarked condition
Much like the interior, the exterior is presented very well for you. This could be down to the low miles that this car has covered over its 16 years on the road, but it is also thanks to the love and attention that the previous owners have lavished over it. The only negative to be found is a tiny crack on the plastic surround on the button that to operate the roof but it doesn’t detract from the overall condition of the interior or affect the operation of the roof.
With this being an XK8 4.2S it was available in four new and exclusive colours. Copper Black, Bay Blue, Satin Silver, or Frost Blue. This car is finished in the latter, and it looks stunning when set against the dark blue canvas roof and silver alloy wheels.
Looking around the exterior of this car it looks stunning, with only a few stone chips on the bonnet/front end. The paint also feels very smooth to the touch, probably meaning it has been detailed to a high standard recently. The vendor also noted that the Jag has this year had ceramic paint protection with a 4 year warranty.
A lovely little touch with the final edition was the inclusion of a special Jaguar badge. Instead of the traditional badge customers got a nice white and green affair. The inclusion of some chequers on the aluminium sill plates also refers to Jaguar's motorsport success throughout the 20th century. This rare and exclusive badge that is fitted to this example is presented in very good condition, sitting proudly at the front of the nose.
Obviously, the most important exterior feature of a convertible is the retractable roof section. Luckily for you, this roof is presented in very good condition with no obvious signs of damage to the material. At the press of a button, this roof folds back and can then be covered by the tonneau. With the roof down it still looks every part of the sports car that it is.
With the exterior being presented in such good condition you can’t miss out on this one, the way that Jaguar XK’s are trending this could be your last opportunity to attain a dream car for an affordable price.

The Mechanics

  • Fitted with a proper V8
  • Recent brake overhaul and Main Dealer Service
  • The XK 4.2-S has an acclaimed 174mph top speed
  • MOT until January 2023
Like any Jaguar, past, present, or in the future, it is vital that the mechanical elements are world class and able to compete with the best offerings from around the world. Luckily for you, the XK8 4.2-S is very capable, and you could even say that it is a bit of a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
When you lift the bonnet of this big cat you are met with the equally big 4.2 litre V8 engine that is able to produce around 300hp (more than enough for any occasion). It must be said that this engine bay is pretty clean with all the black plastic cover present and correct.
This XK8 4.2-S runs beautifully, a simple turn of the key, and the big V8 fires into life idling away nicely. When you wish to depart simply use the legendary J-Gate selector to choose drive and away you go. On the day the photos were taken it was required to manoeuvre around to get the best angles, and every time of asking it selected the gear properly and smoothly.
There is no better thrill than getting out on the open road, with the top down, on a summer's evening. Being able to experience the glorious English countryside and the burble of a proper V8 provides a feeling better than anything else around, you can now experience this feeling with the purchase of this XK8.
