The Appeal

The E46 marks the fourth generation of BMW’s iconic 3-series line and is the successor to the E36.

Available in a range of body styles including the saloon, coupe, convertible, estate, and compact variants, the E46 promised to be a valiant improvement over the E36, continuing BMW’s preferred front-engined rear-wheel-drive configuration and supposedly adding up to 70% more structural rigidity. Amongst the E46 lineup, of course, sits the 330Cd.
The 330Cd was incredibly well-received following its launch and has since become a rather desirable vehicle for a great number of reasons.

BMW essentially presented the world with a beautifully styled coupe, capable of rivaling the equivalent M3 in terms of driving performance, all whilst hiding an economical diesel lump under the bonnet.
With how the current car markets and fuel situation stand, many motorists are now on the search for vehicles that combine rewarding driving characteristics, great performance, and solid fuel economy.

This, of course, makes the 330Cd one of the best candidates for an all-rounder, perfect for sporty top-down weekend drives, motorway commutes, and touring trips.

The History and Paperwork

  • Only 1 former private owner
  • Just 79,515 miles on the clock
  • Great MOT record
  • MOT until September 2022
  • V5C document present
  • 2 keys
This E46 was first registered by BMW main agent Rydale Central prior to being purchased by its first and only former private keeper.

Throughout the previous owner’s possession, the vehicle has covered surprisingly few miles for a diesel vehicle and has no doubt been well maintained over the years.

Reflections of the car’s previous maintenance are of course the superb mechanical condition presented today, and the MOT history.
Although the Bmw Main Dealer service history finished in 2014 the original private owner a middle aged engineer has confirmed its further Bmw specialist service history however this was lost by the dealer on transfer to his new vehicle. The original service book is present and BMW UK has confirmed the vehicle’s provenance via their dialog system with a list of dated visits to the main dealers for servicing/ maintenance.

Included within the vehicle’s paperwork are original handbooks, and the V5C document, which is ready to sign over to the new owner.

The Interior

  • Excellent condition
  • Heated & electric leather seats
  • 3-Spoke M sport multi-function steering wheel
  • Optional extra centre armrest
  • Original floor mats front and rear
  • Original, unmodified interior
  • Includes original first aid kit and tool kit
The interior of this 330Cd is in great condition, certainly befitting the vehicle’s low mileage.

As one would come to expect with BMW, it's a very comfortable space to find yourself, packed with luxurious touches like heated electric leather seats, and the multi-function M sport steering wheel.

If you’re looking for a comfortable daily driver, you’d be hard-pressed to fault this example.
Both front leather seats have been well cared for over the years, with the driver’s seat now showing the majority of the expected signs of use. Electric seat movement and heated seat controls are in full working order, with minimal wear shown on contact points.

The rear seats have quite likely only been used a handful of times throughout the vehicle’s life, with the foldable wind deflector seemingly preferred. As a result, the rear leather could easily fool you of its age.
Despite their age, the 3-spoke leather steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake show minimal signs of wear, once again suggesting a care-filled past. Both door cards, interior trim, and carpeting follow suit, presenting themselves in a clean, tidy, and damage free manner.
Depending on the time of year and personal tastes, drivers can opt to use either the rare hardtop or factory soft top underneath. Both roofs are in excellent condition, with clean headlining, and no leaks or tears.

All associated brackets and interior components for both roofs and the wind deflector are also in full working order.

The Exterior

  • Metallic grey paintwork
  • Colour-coded hardtop
  • Refurbished 18” MV2 alloy wheels
  • Excellent original soft top condition
The exterior of the vehicle presents itself well for its age and stands out from the crowd with a rare colour-coded removable hardtop.

Underneath the hardtop, you’ll find the original black soft top which remains in excellent condition having never been used save for the summertime.
The paintwork is in great condition but does show minor defects and touched-up chips noticeable around the exterior. That being said, the paintwork still retains a great deal of shine, allowing this E46 to remain a very attractive vehicle that certainly won’t disappoint.
Badging, trim pieces, and details are in excellent condition for their age, showing minimal defects. All lights also appear to be free from damage, with perhaps only the front headlights showing the expected signs of wear, noticeable only upon very close inspection.
The car sits on a set of desirable 18-inch MV2 alloy wheels, which look absolutely sublime having been recently professionally refurbished. The wheels come wrapped in a set of new Bridgestone tyres, ready for the lucky new owner to enjoy out on the roads.
Overall, buyers are incredibly unlikely to be disappointed with how this 330Cd presents itself, especially given the rare hardtop and mint MV2 alloy wheels.

It’s a car often chosen for its M3-esque styling, with much more practicality, and without the hefty price tag.

The Mechanics

  • 3L inline-six diesel engine
  • 6-speed manual gearbox
  • Rear-wheel drive
  • Drives great
  • Excellent fuel economy
  • Great brakes all round
  • Automatic headlights
Buyers will be pleased to know that this 330Cd fires up right away, and drives without fault.

Being a diesel vehicle, this E46 offers a great balance of both tremendous torque, and great fuel economy, which is certainly a rather desirable trait at the moment.

The car also reflects BMW’s luxury build quality, providing drivers with a very comfortable driving experience, and instilling plenty of confidence in the corners.
As a result, this 330Cd should be considered the perfect all-rounder, suitable for anything from the daily commute to a spirited road trip across Europe. Once the car is up to operating temperature and with the revs held high, you could very easily forget that this is in fact a diesel car.

At the heart of it, you’ve got a straight-six, rear-wheel-drive convertible that will gladly outperform plenty of rivals. On the other hand, it’s comfortable, economical, and near enough bulletproof, making it the perfect daily driver.
In the world of diesel vehicles, this BMW is a rather low mileage example and certainly drives like a much newer car. Buyers will likely be familiar with how dependable these cars can be, with plenty of examples showing mileage excelling the distance to the moon.

With just shy of 80k on the clock, this E46 will no doubt continue to be a dependable companion for many more years to come.

Summary

This 2005 BMW 330Cd Sport is in excellent condition for its age, has just 1 former keeper being the Bmw Main Dealer with only 1 x private owner since pre registration and has only amassed a remarkable figure of just shy of 80k miles.

The car performs great and presents buyers with the perfect balance of engaging performance, modern comforts, and diesel fuel economy.

If you’re looking for that perfect all-rounder capable of handling the daily commute, road trips abroad, spirited B road drives, and anything else you decide to throw its way, this is the car for you.
