RESERVE LOWERED - 2005 Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6 Lusso Coupe

Highlights:

• Full history with comprehensive documents
• Only 2 private owners
• High spec 3.2 V6 Lusso model
• Low tax

The Background:

The Alfa Romeo 3.2V6 GT was produced between 2004 and 2008 and is based on the legendary 156 GTA. Only 4,244 V6’s were produced worldwide and just 440 imported to the UK, so with Bertone styling the car, in usual Alfa fashion it stood out from the crowd.

The classic Coupé styling has the flexibility of a hatchback making it an extremely practical Grand Tourer, allowing full seating for four people as opposed to the usual 2+2 set up of its competitors, and an extra lap belt for short distance.

The top of the range 3.2 V6 ‘Busso’ engine sounds fabulous and with a smooth and precise six-speed manual gearbox you suddenly had a practical daily sports car capable of 0-60 in 6.5secs and 155mph (limited).

The History:

The owner is an Alfa Romeo owners club member, with another two in his collection and it is now time for this 3.2 V6 to go on to another home. The car has been serviced extensively during its life and with the car being in current ownership since March 2010, this GT has been part of the family, enjoying trips to Italy etc and being an extremely reliable and an enjoyable daily driver.

The car was originally an Alfa Romeo registered vehicle, then purchased by J.Vickers and Son (Bristol Alfa dealer) as a demonstrator, since then it has only had two private owners.

The Paperwork:

This car has a wealth of stamps, receipts and original books with it. The photographs show only a fraction of the cars history since it was first registered and highlight the owners love for this Alfa Romeo. There is a letter confirming that when sold from the dealership that they had purchased it direct from Alfa Romeo.

When work has had to be carried out on this car mechanically it has been done, all paperwork backs this up as do the stamps in the original service booklet. The car was last serviced in April 2021 and the MOT was carried out in September 2021, a first time pass with no advisories.

The Interior:

Lusso’s come with soft opulent Italian Frau tan leather upholstery which is in very good condition throughout, the light wear on the drivers bolster is to be expected with the mileage and age of the car but otherwise, passenger and rear seats are in good order.

The Hi-fi/CD unit is fully operational and linked to the impressive Bose sound system, the door cards are in good condition, with just superficial marks on the grab handles. The leather armrests and panels are free of any marks and damage.

The multi-functional leather steering wheel is in very good condition as is all the switch gear, the car’s impressive specification includes full electrics, dual zone climate control (cold), iPhone connection and as mentioned full leather interior. The boot area is clean and as shown in the photographs the rear seats fold down almost flat with a 60/40 split for versatility.

The Exterior:

Finished in Alfa Rosso, externally this GT in the owners words is “the most honest car you’ll ever find”, stone chips have been touched in, with some lacquer issues, notably on the roof and some small areas around the front bumper, the photographs show these in detail.

The 18” turbine alloys would benefit from refurbishment and showing the care for this car are wrapped in Good Year F1 asymmetric rubber, which have good tread on them. The red calliper Brembo 330mm brakes setting off the look of the GT and could do with a refresh to brighten them up cosmetically, though they work very effectively.

The Mechanics:

GT V6’s were galvanised and this car remains entirely rust free, being checked every year at service.  Stamps show Autolusso, Day and White and Bianco’s have kept it in great mechanical health and it's had new cambelts with metal impeller/water pump fitted by all of them in that time with the last done at 85k in June 2018.

The Q2 Limited Slip differential was fitted on purchase and together with Bilstein B4 shocks ride/handling is improved. Front suspension was substantially rebuilt in 2019, Brake Master Cylinder, exhaust, alternator and radiator replaced too plus there’s new discs, ECU and rear wheel bearings in the impressive amount of paperwork making up the service history.  Well placed aluminium pedals aid the driving experience.

The seller notes that the reversing sensors have just stopped working, possibly an earth issue but yet to be investigated.

The Appeal:

Styled with all the unmistakable Italian design traits it certainly feels a bit special, this GT not only looks the part but has that fabulous ‘Busso’ 3.2 V6 engine beloved by enthusiasts.

With a smooth and torquey engine, linked to a slick and rewarding 6 speed manual gearbox this is your chance to enjoy one of the most stylish coupes to evolve in the last twenty years from Italy and with a few straightforward cosmetic improvements would make an excellent investors choice from the modern era.
