The Appeal

When thinking of iconic sports cars, there are few that come to the forefront of one’s mind more so than the Porsche 911. The beautiful lines, packaged with famed performance, dynamics and practicality, the 911 is the go-to all-rounder performance piece.
Having hit the nail on the head with the first water-cooled 911, Porsche created in the 997, keeping the same recipe with a more subtle redesign, most notably the removal of the “fried egg” style headlights in favour of traditional rounded light pieces.
The Carrera 2S variant of the 997 - such as the one we see here - presented buyers with an even more powerful version of the car, courtesy of a larger displacement 3.8-litre 6-cylinder engine. They also featured Porsche Active Suspension Management, a form of electronic damping control to really boost the 997’s dynamic ability.
This example, boasting a superb history, is in excellent order.

The Interior

  • Rare Ocean Blue leather upholstery
  • There is a new touch upgraded screen car play/Android head unit fitted DAB radio and maps. (original Porsche PCM head unit is included for those who like originality and that the 6 stack CD paver and DVD sat nav is still installed)
  • Exceptional finish with no major signs of wear and tear
Full Ocean Blue leather was specced on this 911 from the factory, and what a choice that was. Nearly every sculpted surface is draped in beautifully stitched leather upholstery. The cabin of a 911 is always a special place to be, but with the perfect interior colour choice, this one is truly something else.
The stylish body-hugging seats up front are of an excellent standard, wonderful dark leather that is still rich and full of colour - lacking very minimal if any, wear. The smaller seats in the rear of the cabin mirror this. The electronic seat mechanisms, including the rare factory-fitted heating and memory seat functions, all work fully and with ease.
The door panels, upholstered in a mix of leather and plush carpeting, are still clean and well-presented. The carpeting, naturally, is of a brilliant standard and is noticeably lacking in wear, largely due to its limited use throughout its lifetime.
This standard continues into the carpet in the cabin of the car, which coats the floors, footwells and the centre tunnel as it becomes more pronounced by the rear seating.
The leather dashboard with its flowing lines has been well preserved and as such is still in great order, as are the clean, well-kept instruments, the 3-spoke leather steering wheel and the newly upgraded Infotainment screen, sitting front and centre.
Opening the front panel of the car, we find an excellently upholstered storage compartment, which is in fine fettle.

The Exterior

  • Arctic Silver Metallic paintwork
  • Completely unmodified
  • Original 19” Porsche Sports Alloys
  •  The car has had a major paint correction so the sills and arches are all unmarked.
  • Paint protection film applied to the rear wheel arches”
With its brilliant Arctic silver metallic finish, this 911 looks absolutely marvellous. The paintwork has a wonderful shine to it and remains in great shape. There are some slight age-commensurate marks and blemishes to be seen around the car, though these are very minor and don’t detract from the car’s wonderful looks. Most wear is limited to the lower sills and arches.
The trim pieces, lights and glasswork are all in good shape and sit neatly within the car's lines. Protruding from the back bumper, a set of factory-fitted rear parking sensors can be seen. The sensors do their job well and function with no reported faults.
We find the car sitting on 4 excellent 19” sport design Porsche alloys which very much set that car off and give it a more modern stance and appearance. The wheels have been freshly refurbished, stripped and powder coated and are unmarked The car is shod in a full set of Bridgestone tyres, that look to have plenty of tread.
Underneath, the car is in fine fettle, blemished only by light surface corrosion.

The Mechanics

  • 3.8L 6-cylinder engine
  • Tiptronic automatic transmission
  • Engine bay looks to be in good order with no faults we can spot
From a mechanical standpoint, the car is in excellent order, the engine running well and the Tiptronic automatic gearbox flows through the gears smoothly and effortlessly - with no faults reported to handling or braking.
With full, regular service history and low mileage, this should make for a superb example for the lucky new owner - the car is only being sold as the vendor is moving to a property with no garage to keep it in.

Summary

Beautifully presented, with nothing to concern even the most discerning collector, this Porsche 911 is an utterly superb example of its thoroughbred model, and an utterly superb prospect for a future classic. Whether it’s your first Porsche or an addition to your fleet, there’s no doubt this’ll make for a fine buy.
