2004 Porsche Boxster

Highlights

  • Iconic styling
  • Well looked after example
  • Low mileage
  • Wonderful sounding flat-6

The Background

The Boxster is a car that really needs no introduction - it was, and still is, one of the most popular luxury roadsters you can buy.

This 2004 model has the upgraded 2.7 litre flat six, whereas the older models were produced with a 2.5. Back when these came out, it was an easy way to flash your cash and also have a good time while doing so.

The History

This Boxster has had quite a pampered lifestyle - the MOT records reflect that the car has had a fair bit of mechanical attention and like in regular Porsche fashion, no expense has been spared with it.

It seems like it has always been treated with great care, and the condition may very well reflect that.

The Paperwork

The original leather booklet is available alongside the Porsche maintenance booklet and owners manual, there is also a binder full of receipts, invoices and MOT records for the car over the years. There is a nice paper trail to accompany this Roadster.
The V5C is available and ready to be signed over to the new owner.

The Interior

Like any Porsche, the interior of this Boxster is a lovely place to be, and you still get a sense of refinement. You can tell it’s not just your average little runabout, and the level of quality we expect from the brand has stood the test of time.

The steering wheel, still tightly bound in leather, shows no signs of any rips or tears, and the plastics used throughout the interior don’t show any signs of fading.

The driver and passenger seats look great with only small signs of use like the usual creases and small crack lines, but there doesn’t appear to be any rips or tears throughout the leather work. The seats are still very comfortable and supportive, they hold you right where you need to be.
The gauge cluster works as it should, the red dial needles are still vivid with colour and there are no unwanted warning lights present on the dash upon the turn of the key.

The centre console controls all still work accordingly, and none of the printed text has faded or worn away from use - everything is still clear and readable here!

The headliner does have a very small sag closest to the release handle for the retractable roof - it seems this may be common though and it looks as though it may be easy to fix. Aside from the sagging, the material seems tear free and still feels soft to the touch.
Upon retracting the roof, the roll bar and Lexan screen rise from behind the driver and passenger seats to provide roll-over protection and also to help reduce the amount of air that will travel into the cab at speed - instead it should flow over the top of your head.

The Exterior

Finished in Seal Grey Metallic, this little roadster can still turn a few heads with its good looks. Starting at the front of the car, it has the same stone chips that any car would, however thanks to the silver paintwork it does a very good job at disguising any without getting up close and personal.

The two headlights still have a great level of clarity and they show no signs of any damage or cracking. The bonnet and wings are much the same - no real signs of any damage, and the Porsche crest still sits proudly shining on the nose of the car.
Around to the side of the car, we can see the 4 original alloy wheels which are in quite nice shape with no apparent curb marks, and all four corners seem to have plenty of meat on the tires too.

The wheel bolts themselves are showing some corrosion - but that’s really the only flaw we can pick with them here. The air intake vents on the sides of the car are still present with no damage.

The driver side door does have some slight paint chipping on the edge of the door - we can only assume from someone hastily opening without checking their surroundings, however there doesn’t seem to be any damage to the panel itself, just the paint which could quite easily be touched in.
To the rear of the vehicle we can see that the driver side tail light has a small crack on the lens - aside from this there is no fading or other issues, the lights still function as they should and it doesn’t appear that the crack has let in any moisture so far.

The Boxster logo is present and still well presented and the rear bumper shows no signs of damage or fading - the paint has been very well preserved on this pretty roadster.

The canvas top appears to be in good condition too, with no rips or tears throughout and doesn’t appear to be letting any water in.

The Mechanics

Propelled by a 2.7L flat six cylinder engine positioned just in front of the rear wheels, which are driven by a 5-speed manual transmission making approximately 225bhp at the time of production, the car has no problem pushing its weight around.

It makes for quite a lively experience and an enjoyable drive, it keeps you engaged and focused. The car also gives off a lovely 6 cylinder rumble that can only really be heard from a Porsche like this, the sound is intoxicating.
The car has had a good bit of mechanical work on it over the years as can be seen by both the MOT history and the pile of paperwork that comes alongside the car - but this indicates that great care has been taken with the car and any necessary repairs have been undertaken whenever needed. As they should!
Overall, a seemingly very sound Boxster that’s ready to pounce at the chance of driving down a sunny back road… These can be quite a laugh to throw around!

The Appeal

The Boxster is a great entry into the Roadster world, oozing with luxury that cars of that era just struggled to match. Pair its great looks with that grumbling flat six engine, and you’ve got a very spicy little sports car at your fingertips.

Don’t miss out on this, these are fantastic cars for the money and you’d be hard pushed to find something with similar pedigree in this price range.
