The Appeal

When thinking of iconic sports cars, there are few cars that come to the forefront of one’s mind more so than the Porsche 911. The beautiful flowing lines, packaged with famed performance, dynamic ability and practicality, the 911 is well cemented as the go to all rounder performance piece.
The 996 variant, produced from 1997 to 2006, was something of a revolutionary 911, still keeping the trademark rear engine layout, but with an all new water cooled 6 cylinder thrown into the mix.
The 996 is quickly becoming recognised as one of the finest 911s to date, becoming an incredibly sought after piece among collectors and driving enthusiasts alike and this 2004 model is one of the finest of the breed. A larger capacity 3.6 litre car in ever desirable Carrera 4s specification, this low mileage low owner performance piece is a wonderful slice of open top Porsche brilliance.

  • Under its current ownership the car has worn the private registration KOH 1L but now resides on RX54 NVH
  • V5 registration document present with the vehicle
  • Current MOT valid with no advisories until June 2024
  • A lack of use since the vendor works abroad means the car is now looking for a new loving home
  • MOT records highlight and corroborate minimal mileage covered under current ownership

The Interior

  • Black leather upholstery
  • Electric sports seating in the front
  • Highly original condition
  • Good scope for improvement
Draped in sumptuous navy leather, the cabin of the 911 is a rather special place to be and would have been the height of luxury performance when rolling off of the forecourt in 2004, a true testament to the outstanding Porsche quality we have all come to know.
The stylish body hugging seats up front are of a good standard, wonderful stitching and dark leather that is still rich and full of colour, they appear in incredibly original condition and bare an honest patina predominantly on the drivers bolstering. The smaller seats in the rear of the cabin look to have seen very limited use in their lifetime and present in great clean form.
The leather dashboard with its flowing lines has been well preserved and as such is still in great order, the same can be said for the iconic leather three spoke steering wheel and sculpted centre console piece. The factory radio and switchgear contained within the aforementioned centre console are clean and notably lacking in wear, however the vendor informs us that at present the radio system is not working.
A piece of artwork in themselves, the door panels, upholstered in a mix of leather and plush carpeting are still wholly presentable, the passenger side is in fine form however there is a distinguishable area of tarnishing to the leather upper section of the drivers side panel. A similar level of imperfection can be seen to the leather finish in the rear passenger side section of the cabin.
The electronically operated soft top roof whilst presenting in good form from the exterior does exhibit with some flaws when examining from the interior, namely some ripping to the upper sections of the upholstery and sagging to the fitment, although it should be noted that these do no affect the physical operation of the hood which still works excellently.
In the front we find a clean and simple storage area, entirely capable of taking some luggage for a weekend away. Exhibiting some good quality plastics and an emergency space saver wheel if needed.

The Exterior

  • Wonderful deep grey exterior paint work
  • Removable hard top roof
  • Desirable five spoke Porsche alloys
With its brilliant dark grey exterior finish, this 911 looks absolutely great from an exterior perspective. The paintwork has a wonderful shine to it and remains in largely good shape thanks to the incredibly high standards to which these cars were painted in the factory. Throughout its lifetime the bodywork has wicked up some blemishes though, most notably a gouge on the front passenger side wheel arch, there are also some areas of scuffing to be seen in places throughout the bodywork, however this is still a wholly presentable Porsche.
Arguably the party piece of the car comes in the form of the roof. We find a body coloured removable hard top roof panel, which, with the use of the factory tool that is still present with the car, can be unlatched and removed with relative ease. Underneath sits the electronically operated soft top roof which, having had the control unit reconditioned, opens and closes with ease. Whilst exhibiting some flaws on the inner side, the soft top presents nicely from the outside with just some signs of staining predominantly from a lack of use as the car is mainly driven with the hardtop on.
Lighting and glasswork are in clean and smart form sitting neatly within the cars lines, with straight and consistent panel gaps across the board. At ground level we find four good examples of the highly desirable five spoke silver Porsche alloy wheels with contrasting red brake callipers behind. A fifth space saver wheel resides in the front storage compartment for emergencies.

The Mechanics

  • Higher output 3.6 litre engine
  • Tiptronic transmission system
  • Serviced less than 2 thousand miles ago
Opening the rear panel, we find ourselves looking at a great example of Porsche’s higher output and more desirable 3.6 litre water cooled engine. Thanks, largely due to its quality servicing, and its incredibly low mileage, the motor fires into life with ease, with an excellent tone coming from the rear mounted exhausts. A true six cylinder symphony.
The car provides an excellent dynamic drive, with the rear mounted engine having plenty of power on tap. The tiptronic gearbox system to which the engine is mated is in great order, and cycles through the gears effortlessly and smoothly. The suspension provides a comfortable perfectly balanced ride and the braking system brings the car to a stop with ease.
The most recent service on the car was undertaken less than 2 thousand miles ago and in June the car was given the all clear from a safety perspective in the form of an advisory free MOT which is now valid until 19/06/2024.

Summary

For a true sports car and driving enthusiast, the 911 is an excellent choice. That wonderful combination of style, power, with genuine usability, practicality and comfort is unmatched.
996 911s such as this are something of a rarity, a beautiful colour combination with incredibly low mileage, low owners and in desirable Carrera 4s specification. This is a truly special opportunity to acquire an automotive legend, that with some love can be made into a thoroughly outstanding car.
