The Appeal

If there’s a brand that embodies the spirit of open top, traditional motoring like no other, it’s Morgan. Hand crafted in Malvern, Worcestershire, Morgans to this day combine ash body framing with the latest bonded aluminium technologies to build sports cars that offer vintage thrills with modern reliability.
The 2004 4/4 we have here has covered fewer than 9,000 miles and is offered for sale by the same gentleman who specified its optional extras from the factory. As you would expect, the car is in very good order inside and out and has apparently benefited from regular servicing from new.

The History and Paperwork

  • Purchased new by the vendor in 2004
  • Part main dealer service history
  • To be supplied with 12 months MOT
  • Only 8,181 miles from new
  • Accompanying factory paperwork
  • Owners handbook
  • V5C present

The Interior

  • Green leather with contrasting light grey piping
  • Walnut dashboard with ivory dials
  • Le Mans gear lever
  • Radio pack
  • Organ accelerator pedal
  • Airbag
  • Heated Windscreen
Inside, this Morgan has all the appointments you would expect of the quintessential classic British sports car. The seats, which show little to no wear, are finished in green leather with contrasting light grey piping. While there is ever so slightly more creasing evident on the driver’s seat as you would expect, both are in excellent order, the car having been used very little.
The carpeting also matches the seats, it too being finished in green with light grey piping and it is in good order. The pedals appear in good shape and the vendor had also chosen the optional organ throttle pedal from the factory.
The driver is presented with a walnut dashboard which appears free from blemishes and the ivory instruments and switchgear are all in lovely condition. There is also a fly-off handbrake and Le Mans gear lever, which are finished in polished aluminium and lend this Morgan a real sporting feel.

The Exterior

  • Rolls-Royce Iridium paintwork
  • Lowline Plus 8 chassis
  • Luggage rack
  • Plus 8 spot lamps
  • Wire wheels
Finished in Rolls-Royce Iridium, this 4/4 stands out from other Morgans and in our opinion the colour really suits it. Wire wheels, a staple of the Morgan brand, appear in very good condition including the spare which is mounted on the rear of the car beneath an optional luggage rack.
There is no damage or corrosion we could discern anywhere on the car and a few minor paint imperfections are to be expected of a low production volume, hand-made car such as this.
In addition to the aforementioned wire wheels, the remaining brightwork is in excellent order, the stainless steel parts such as the bonnet stays are very presented indeed. The vendor informs us that the car received preventative woodworm treatment and additional underseal when new from the factory.
The green convertible hood looks to be in good order, operating as it should and free from damage, bleaching or excessive wear. The car is also supplied with a tonneau cover and side screens, along with the tool for fitting them.

The Mechanics

  • 1,796cc Ford Zetec 16-valve inline-four
  • Regularly started and run
  • SPAX adjustable shock absorbers
Arguably the greatest benefit of a modern Morgan over acquiring a vintage sports car is the reliability and durability of the powertrain. Inevitably, old cars break down and some days, they even refuse to get going all together. However, this has never been a case with this Morgan as it comes equipped with the eminently reliable 1.8-litre 4-cylinder Ford engine.
This powerplant provides this small, lightweight Morgan with ample performance, far exceeding that of most classic British sports cars while also being simple to maintain, reliable and economical.
The owner has used this car very sparingly since 2004, although he reports that the car is frequently taken out of the garage, run until up to temperature and gently exercised up and down the driveway.
There are no mechanical faults to report and we are informed that this 4/4 is really rewarding to drive, providing an experience that no other car from 2004 compares to.

Summary

Presented in lovely condition, in an unusual colour and with few miles on the odometer, this Morgan 4/4 is an excellent way to enjoy carefree classic motoring.
With the opportunity to acquire the car from the original owner, there will be no better time to get your hands on this charming little Morgan.
