THE APPEAL
To many enthusiasts, the 2002-2009 Jaguar ‘X350’ generation of XJ was the last of the company’s truly classic big saloons and was certainly the last one to retain the traditional quad headlamp front end and swooping profile that completely defined the brand ever since the first XJ debuted in 1968.
It was also a car that got a rapturous reception from the automotive media when new, its wonderful ride and handling matched by surprisingly frugal fuel economy and – for its day – advanced technology.
This one is a wonderful car. A 4.2-litre V8 Sovereign, it’s the ultimate luxury impression of the X350 in long wheelbase format. It’s also a car that’s stylish for a reason – the first owner was Arnaud Bamberger, the former UK CEO of watchmaker and jewellery firm Cartier. Indeed, it even has the registration number V9 AMB, which he specified with the car when new.
It was his until 2014 and has only had one other owner since, covering 66,000 miles in total. Finished in Ebony black with a subtle red pinstripe, it’s a striking car and one with real presence.

SUMMARY
This is a truly lovely example of the luxury long-wheelbase version of the X350, in opulent Sovereign specification – as you’d expect for a car that used to be the personal transport of the CEO of one of the world’s most recognisable luxury brands.
It’s in wonderful condition, having been kept in tip-top order as a chauffeur-driven vehicle for much of its life, while a nearly new engine is a further plus, having covered only a handful of miles since it was installed.
As modern classics go, the combination of the car’s fascinating history, the colour and spec and the overall terrific condition make this a very desirable car indeed.
