The Background

The XJ6 was the longest–running Jaguar of all, the top for the range and an embodiment of British engineering at its best.  The fourth incarnation -the X350 model, was launched in 2003 with looks that echo earlier versions, but it was very different indeed, not least because it was built from aluminium rather than steel. That cut the weight dramatically, helping economy, emissions and performance.

The weight savings allowed Jaguar to use a smaller capacity 3 litre V6.  This engine provided a more than adequate 235hp delivered through a slick-shifting six-speed auto gearbox.  It also included plenty of technology; touch screen sat-nav, a high-spec entertainment system and adaptive air suspension being the main highlights. These X350 model Jaguars were more refined, more rewarding to drive, and better built than the earlier X308 models

The History

This smart Jaguar was purchased by the seller in February 2021 to add to a vast collection. The car has been used lightly by the director of the collection and is now it’s being offered for sale due to lack of space so the collection is being reduced.

With only 3 previous owners it is obvious from the condition of the car, the invoices on file, and the nicely stamped Service Book that they have all taken great care of the Jaguar.

The Paperwork

A quick look through the Service book reveals that it has had 15 services at regular intervals, the first four up to 40,000 miles at Stratstone, and the majority of the others are at Jaguar specialists E & E Services in Milton Keynes.  The most recent service was performed by Surrey Jaguar Centre on 19th January this year at 71,276 miles, just 200 miles ago.

There is an MoT valid until February 2023, and a few past MoTs that corroborate the low miles covered. The most recent work was to correct a gearbox issue which required a new solenoid and fresh filters and oil at a cost of £882.
The full Owner’s wallet is present with all the books, and two sets of keys with remotes.

The Interior

The inside of this car is simultaneously luxurious and sporting.  With black leather Sports seats, combined with an attractive Ash Grey veneer fascia it strikes just the right mix.  The seats are in good condition with no tears or worn areas, and the rear seats appear to be barely used.  All the switchgear and instrumentation is clean and tidy and the veneer is shiny and unscratched. Throughout the interior there is little evidence of wear, even to the steering wheel.
The grey carpets are clean, and protected by rubber mats. The sills and Jaguar sill plates are unscratched and bright.  The door panels do show a few foot scuffs that would probably clean off.
There are a few marks on the roof lining that may also clean off, and the lining is sagging slightly over the rear seats.
The boot area is exceptionally clean, with the Jaguar CD changer in place behind the cubby door.  The space saver spare is properly mounted, with the correct tools.  All in the entire boot can be described as “as new”.

The Exterior

The smart Black Metallic paint finish has aged well, with no evidence of bubbling in the usual areas, a sign that the Jaguar is likely to have spent time in a warm garage. The front of the car has minor stone chips here and there but no more than you would expect to see.  Looking down the flanks of the car there are no door dings to spoil the glossy black mirror paint, which is quite impressive.

The glass is all unmarked, and the vulnerable under bumper front fogs are intact and have no cracks.
The 18 inch alloy wheels are in excellent condition, with no curb marks or signs of corrosion.  They are shod with a matching set of Pirelli P6000 tyres that are barely worn.

The Mechanics

Looking under the bonnet you can see that the car has covered just 70,000 miles; there is no evidence of oil or dirt leaks, its all lovely and dry as you would expect.  There are a couple of marks on the intake manifold where the bonnet insulation has rubbed, but apart from that it is impressively neat and smart.

The money spent on proper servicing has paid dividends as the seller reports the Jaguar drives like a new car with no creaks or rattles, and is very comfortable, especially so on longer journeys.

The Appeal

The XJ Jaguars always had a healthy market amongst the older, golf club stereotypes, but with the X350 model Jaguar tried to tempt a younger market who aspired to German products.

With this lighter, more frugal, but equally powerful model they succeeded, incorporating a more up to date, less country club interior.  Now a few years on this XJ still has lots of style and ageless good looks, and few are a smart and well preserved as this one.
