The Appeal
The X-Type’s rise in the compact executive saloon market was fast after its launch in 2001 thanks to a perfect execution by a Jaguar Ford fusion. A shooting brake variant quickly followed, being Jaguar’s first ever estate car in series production as well as the first Jaguar model designed by Ian Callum. Thanks to an independently-opening tailgate and large boot space, Jaguar were able to combine a need for conversational practicalities with their aesthetic attention to detail as well as the reliability of a Ford foundation.
While X-Types sold over 350,000 examples worldwide, just circa 10,000 petrol examples were produced in estate variants, making them pretty rare. 'Sport Pack' models are rarely seen. Here Jaguar match pacey shooting-brake lines with sporty specification.
The 2.5 or 3.0-litre 'Sport' models came with unique 18-inch alloy wheels and a bespoke dashboard. Half-leather, half-Alcantara sports seats, a leather-rimmed sports steering wheel and Alcantara door inserts completed the package. Aside from the generous equipment inside the car, there was increased bhp to play with alongside an all-wheel-drive system.
This very smart 2.5L V6 seems to tick all the boxes. It is a stylish modern classic, distinctive daily driver and practical load-lugger or dog limousine. With a MOT to July 2025 it's ready to enjoy with grace, space and pace.
