2004 BMW Z4 3.0 SE

Highlights

  • Low mileage example
  • Garage kept
  • Good paperwork file
  • Desirable 3.0L M54 engine

The Appeal

Following in the footsteps of the Z3, the Z4 had big shoes to fill - and thanks to BMW learning a number of life lessons from the product life cycle of the Z3, the marque was finally able to trade blows with the likes of Porsche and Mercedes in an increasingly popular roadster arena. Initially only available with the 2.5 or 3.0 litre engines, reinforcing the image of a high-end bit of kit, a very different track was followed with the introduction of the Z4, as its older brother was actually branded as competition for the somewhat gutless Mazda MX-5 with a 1.9 litre engine. Never let it be said that BMW cannot learn from their mistakes!
This example is presented with low mileage and a lovely pile of paperwork accompanying it with details of service history, MOT certificates as well as mechanical work undertaken. Stored away in a garage when not in use, it remains in great condition with normal signs of age and use as to be expected.

  • Rear-wheel drive configuration allows for an exciting and engaging drive when the mood calls for it
  • Partial service history is present with the vehicle and the owner tells us that the engine remains in good mechanical condition with no known problems or unwelcome sounds present
  • Steering is reportedly good with direct positioning and good road feedback as to be expected of a roadster, and the vehicle also has the M Sports suspension package from the factory
  • Tyres are showing their age and their date codes confirm that they should be replaced for safety
  • A traction control warning light is present on the dashboard however appears to cause no running issues with the vehicle, spirited driving may just get a little more… spirited!

Summary

A well loved example of BMW’s hit roadster, the Z4 is among some of the most fun you can have without a whole lot of cash. Being a near direct competitor for the Boxster and SLK, you can be assured that throwing one of these around can be tremendous fun, and you look good while doing so, too.
If you’re in the market for an agile, quick, and fun little sportster, you don’t have to look any further than this!
