The Attractions
The Italian TVR was born under the best auspices. The result of a project approved by Alessandro De Tomaso, designed by Marcello Gandini, technologically developed by F1 designer Enrique Scalabroni and marketed by Kjell Qvale - the famous US importer of Maserati, De Tomaso and Jensen - the Mangusta had all the makings of a success.
The press was immediately enthusiastic. The first people who were lucky enough to try it appreciated its aesthetics, agility, performance and luxurious interior. The innovative folding roof also received much praise.
Yet only 284 were built. The difficult relationship between Qvale and De Tomaso and the obstacles often encountered in the production of small series sports cars led, after only four years, to the Mangusta project being handed over to British Rover, who would adopt it as the basis for the MG X Power sports car.
The small number of examples sold was a sad epilogue for Italian sports car enthusiasts of the time, but it is a strong point for modern collectors. If you can find an example in good condition - and this one is - you have the chance to discover a valuable secret of Italian motoring history. The Mangusta is fantastic, and this low-mileage, sparingly used and carefully maintained example proves it.
Presented in eye-catching black with a contrasting leather interior, it is hard to believe that this car is 21 years old. It has clearly been well maintained and everything works properly, including its original folding roof with Targa panels.
Equipped with ASI certification confirming its provenance, it also offers an MOT valid until October 2025. A fascinating opportunity for Italian supercar lovers and knowledgeable collectors alike.
