The Appeal

With the Boxter, Porsche returned to building a relatively small and simple roadster. It was and is a less complex, easier to live with car than a 911, while still rewarding its owners with probably almost all of the real-world driving pleasure - and handling.
In Arctic Silver over Metropole Blue, this already very desirable, low-mileage and car has the added attraction of the potent 3.2-litre engine and six-speed gearbox, giving it performance on a par with the 996 Cabriolet.

This facelift 986 was produced only for 2 years with the heated rear window, gloveboc and clear front and rear indicators.
It’s a car that can be a tourer, a point-to-point sprinter or simply a boulevardier all in one
day. Dress it up and go to the theatre, dress down and go for coffee. Or dress how you like and go for a blast on the B-rads. It fits into your life wherever you want it; your call.

The History and Paperwork

  • Fully stamped service books with The first 3 services and first MOT were done by the Porsche main dealer JCT 600 Leeds
  • The last MOT and recommissioning was done by a Porsche specialist garage
  • Comes with all three keys and manuals
  • Part of a classic car collection for 20 years

The present owner bought the Porsche new from the dealership in 2003. After running the Boxter as a weekend and day trip car for three years, he then put it into his collection, where it has been maintained (by the supplying dealership) and kept in a dry, temperature-controlled environment. Having been given a full inspection and a fresh MoT by JTC600, the car is once again ready for the road.

The Interior

  • Full leather sports interior in Metropole Blue
  • Gently patina’d leather
  • Contrasting brushed silver details and roll bar
  • Glass wind deflector
The blue leather sports interior complements the silver bodywork very well. The owner looked after the cabin and the leather remains in an excellent condition. The hides have not faded and show only a gentle creasing. Seat bolsters and cushions are firm, well defined and retain all of their shape. This is also true of the leather-covered items - gear knob and steering wheel - which remain very presentable. Buttons and controls on the centre console are generally very tidy, while the heavier ‘rhinoceros hide’ retain all of their texture and colour. All the materials of the door cards – leather, metal and fabric – still make for a pleasing and very tidy composition.
Carpets are stain-free and show a good pile, though admittedly, the interior could do with a valet. The logo’d mats have straight, nicely bound edges and show no holes or stains. The rubber seals around the cabin appear very healthy, and it’s worth noting that this model has the more rare glass section in the wind break behind the seats. The soft top sits neatly in place when folded and raises and lowers smoothly.
The car is the sophisticated roadster it ever was.

The Exterior

  • Elegant and understated colour combination
  • Paintwork in excellent condition
  • Rust-free example
  • Narrow and consistent shut lines and panel gaps
  • Fitted with an aero sports bumper at a cost of £2800
  • Smoothly operating hood in complementary Metropole Blue

Resplendent in its original colour of Arctic Silver, the Boxter remains a very smart machine. The finish is consistent across the car on both metal and plastic parts, maintaining a good gloss all round. Shut lines and panel gaps are consistently narrow, while bumpers, air scoops, lights and door handles all remain flush to the bodywork, maintaining the overall smoothness of the contours and keeping the integrity of the shape.
Much the same can be said of the (original) hood, finished in contrasting Metropole Blue. It is in excellent condition, retaining a good deep colour with no signs of fading, and with no tears or worn patches. It operates smoothly. The rear window – glass in this case – is clear and smooth.
Badges show no scuffs or corrosion and the Porsche crest on the nose remains well defined and vivid in colour.

The Mechanics

  • Attractive red brake calipers with clean, drilled discs behind
  • Smart 17in alloys
  • Very solid underneath
  • Shod with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres with plenty of tread
The Porsche looks solid very solid underneath. There is the lightest degree of weathering to the underside of the Boxter, but paint, all seams and weatherproofing appear very much intact. The underside of the body appears strong, and there don’t appear to be any stains from leaks on the subframe supporting the engine. This structure too looks very robust. The 17in alloy wheels look to be in very good shape, with the brake callipers behind – very clean and very red – being a nice touch.

Summary

So many Boxters have been mucked about with – modified for better or worse – or titivated within an inch of their lives. It’s always refreshing to find an original, low mileage example whose condition and paperwork testify undeniably to its authenticity. With essentially only three years on the road and almost 20 in careful storage, the Porsche hasn’t had to suffer so many of the very minor but regular trials and deteriorating factors that wear a car out.
It’s a car you can buy with confidence, knowing it is going to perform to Porsche’s high standards in every respect, and also knowing that, with sensible use and diligent servicing, its value will remain strong.
