2003 MG TF 135

Vendor supplied images

Highlights

  • MOT valid until December 2024
  • Complete with its removable hard top and folding soft top roofs
  • Recent new head gasket and strengthening bars added to the sump
  • Formerly owned by a prolific member of the MG owner's club

The Appeal

Taking on the newly released Mazda MX5 and (M100) Lotus Elan, the ‘TF’ was MG’s first sports car since the limited edition RV8, and the first to enter mass production since their Abingdon plant discontinued the MGB in 1980. Unlike its aforementioned competitors, the TF was mid-engined and therefore offered unrivalled balance which translated into fabulous handling. Rover’s supremely accomplished K-Series engine provided the propulsion and so the TF proved a competent performer in contemporary road test reports.
Here we have a well-presented 2003 example which looks to be in very good condition for its age. To combat well-known MG TF foibles, it has recently received a new head gasket and strengthening bars to the sump.
The MOT runs until December 2024, so this svelte British roadster is ready for miles of summer motoring.

The History and Paperwork

  • Well-stamped original service book
  • V5C present
  • Four former registered keepers
  • MOT valid until 20th December 2024
  • Original Owner’s Handbook

The Condition

  • The vendor demonstrates that the folding soft top operates correctly and looks to be in very good condition
  • Smart matching hard top (with heated rear window) which clearly fits well
  • Slight kerbing to the otherwise well-presented alloy wheels
  • The bodywork appears straight and solid, with no obvious issues
  • Besides some small chips and areas of lacquer peel, the paintwork continues to shine and is seems free from significant imperfections
  • The vendor shows us the underside, which presents nicely for a car of this age
  • No notable wear apparent to the original upholstery and controls
  • The switchgear and instrumentation look to be in fine order

The Mechanics

  • 1,796 cc Rover K-Series four-cylinder petrol engine
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • We’re not informed of any apparent mechanical issues
  • Recent new head gasket and strengthening bars added to the sump
  • Original-looking engine compartment
