2003 Mercedes-Benz 600SL V12 Bi-Turbo (W203)

Highlights

  • 5.5 litre V12 Bi-Turbo with 493hp
  • Good history and Service Book
  • Just 18 miles since last Main Dealer service

The Appeal

The Mercedes SL traces its roots back to 1954, with nearly every model being an icon of its time. Think of the 300SL/SLR and 190SL series of the 1950s and 60s, the gorgeous Pagoda roof examples from the 1960s, the R107 series from the Dallas era 1970s and 80s, even the R129 series from the 1990s.  All have attained truly iconic status, and we think the W203 series is equally destined for greatness.

The pick of the pack has to be the 600SL with the twin turbo V12 from the S-Class.  Is this the ultimate convertible?  Folding hardtop, V12 power, gorgeous looks and Mercedes prestige.  It doesn’t get better!

History and Paperwork

  • Duplicate Service Book with 7 stamps

  • MoT valid to March 2023
  • Newly issued V5c (old one included)
  • Original Mercedes Data Sheet
  • Documented history from new
  • Initially registered as a Mercedes Benz demonstrator
  • Sold by Mercedes-Benz, Norwich
  • Previously registered as XYC1 and 4CJE, and recently R11PBP
  • First Owner Mervyn Lambert Plant Ltd, Garboldisham
  • Second owner in 2010 Greenheath of Newmarket, then re-registered to one of the Directors
  • Seller (5th registered owner) purchased in 2020, at 62,952 miles, has since added a mere 527
  • £2,280 invoice for suspension work and Service in 2020, and further £691 Service in March 2021

The Interior

  • Light grey leather seats and trim
  • Burred Walnut centre console, door inserts and steering wheel
  • Glass Variomatic folding hardtop
  • Light grey carpets with black SL floor mats
  • CD Changer with TV/Tuner
The SL interior is in excellent overall condition with no areas that show significant wear. The grey leather seats are supremely comfortable, and are electrically adjustable and have minor creasing from use but no damage.  The light grey carpets are clean and protected by SL branded floor mats.
The folding roof mechanism operated perfectly when we were taking the photographs, stowing neatly in the boot whilst still retaining a good amount of luggage space.  The boot area is clean and looks virtually unused with no marks on the carpet. The seller tells us that all the interior electrical conveniences are working perfectly, although he admits there are some he hasn’t discovered yet!

The Exterior

  • Attractive and immaculate Teal Blue Metallic paint in excellent condition
  • 18 inch five spoke Mercedes alloys with no damage
  • Pirelli tyres with light wear
The paintwork on this car is a particularly attractive shade of blue called Teal Metallic which suits the sleek profile of the car.  With barely a stone chip to be found you wouldn’t guess that the SL has covered 60,000 miles.  Like the interior the outside is in excellent condition with no chips on the glass or headlights.  The badges are all correct and intact and we couldn’t see evidence of any damage to the bodywork.

The Mechanics

  • M275 5.5 litre V12 Bi-Turbo
  • 5 speed Automatic gearbox
  • Service, oil and filter change in March 2022 at 63,431 miles
  • As immaculate under the bonnet as the day it was delivered
The seller tells us that they would be keeping the SL if they had garage space, but with other cars on the fleet they have decided to part with it despite spending a substantial amount keeping it in top condition, and having driven it sparingly over the past 14 months. Describing the performance as “spectacular” they have used the SL for a couple of trips to London, and locally.

With a recent service just 18 miles ago, and a MoT valid until March 2023 we would imagine that there will be miles of trouble free motoring for the lucky winning bidder.

Summary

If only we had the money!  A truly spectacular Mercedes that has to be the ultimate convertible coupe.
