2003 Maserati Spyder

Highlights

  • Only 63,439 miles from new
  • MOT until January 2024 with zero advisories
  • Desirable Ferrari/Maserati F136 R V8 Engine
  • Impressive paperwork file

The Appeal

Introduced in 2001, the Maserati Spyder was a smash hit the moment it rolled out of the Modena plant. Indeed, this was the car that relaunched Maserati across the Atlantic, after an 11-year hiatus, and what a relaunch it was. This GT was a powerful, high-octane car with minimalistic, elegant styling.
This example has been with the vendor since 2011, and boasts an MOT up to January 2024, with zero advisories. It’s clearly been cossetted and should make for a fabulous prospect for any collector.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in January 2003
  • Six registered owners
  • Purchased by the current owner in 2011
  • Every MOT passed since 2011
  • Indicates 63,439 miles
  • Two sets of keys with a Maserati lanyard
  • The paperwork file includes:
    • All original Maserati handbooks, manuals and resources, still in leather wallet
    • Complete stamped service record
    • Selection of MOT certificates
    • A strong collection of invoices going back to at least 2010
    • Print out of the listing from which the owner purchased the car

The Interior

  • Stylish, distinctly sporty interior with a curvy dashboard
  • Black leather upholstery throughout sets a sporty style
  • Seats and door cards are in good order, with heavier wear to the driver’s seat
  • The dashboard is in excellent condition with all instruments and options easy to read
  • The vendor notes no major issues with any of the controls or options
  • To reduce ‘Sticky button syndrome’, certain controls have been cleaned
  • Luxury items include:
    • Electric adjustable seats, windows and mirrors
    • Central push-button satnav and telephone console
    • Maserati branded clock
    • Full air-conditioning
    • Heated windows
    • Sports mode for the transmission
  • Carpets and linings are in good order with no issues
  • The boot is in good order with no major faults and a 5-disc CD changer
  • Spare wheel and toolkit

The Exterior

  • Imposing black paintwork with sleek, streamlined bodywork
  • Bodywork appears to be in good order with no dents or dings we can spot
  • Paintwork carries very light wear but still makes for a highly impressive appearance
  • The iconic Maserati grille and branding are in excellent condition and contrast nicely
  • Headlight lenses are clean and free of cracks or fractures
  • Arches and sills are solid with no signs of bubbling or corrosion
  • The car is sitting on its original alloys, and wearing Pirelli tyres
  • The hood has been repaired due to the frame causing some tearing
  • However, it still looks the part and this doesn’t detract from the car
  • Underneath, the car has some surface corrosion but appears sound

The Mechanics

  • Powered by the highly prized 4244cc Ferrari/Maserati F136 R V8 engine
  • 6-speed Graziano Cabiocorsa automated manual transmission
  • The engine bay is clean and well kept with the distinctive branded head on full display
  • The vendor reports no mechanical faults with the car, nor any leaks, bangs, or smoke
  • However, they do note the right turn indicator can be troublesome and may need a look at
  • Ultimately, this car appears to be in fine order

Summary

Very nicely presented, with all of its desirable options intact, this Spyder should make for a highly impressive addition to any enthusiast’s garage. With a fresh MOT until January 2024, you can enjoy this beguiling tourer with confidence.
