The Appeal

Old Land Rovers are a victim of their own success. They’re so useful to have a round that finding one that hasn’t been run into the ground is not an easy task.
With this 2003 Defender though, we’ve hit the jackpot.
We like the vendor’s summary - “it looks like a Britain's Farm model scaled up to full size”. It really does. This Land Rover Defender 90 is the pleasingly simple commercial variant with white steel wheels, a windowless van-type roof and farmyard-friendly ‘Belize Green’ paintwork. It’s lived a charmed existence, spending much of its life garaged, covering a mere 61,167 miles and benefitting from regular servicing.
The vendor was attracted to the Land Rover for its originality and they have since continued its preservation; carrying out a raft of improvements including re-powder-coating the steel wheels, repainting the bumper along with parts of the chassis, which was then treated with Bilt Hamber Dynax.
We can’t emphasise enough how rare a low-mileage original Defender with a fully documented history is. This superb modern classic 4x4 is a fabulous find.

The vendor provides the following account of the Land Rover’s history:
GU03 NVF was first registered on 1st March 2003 by Caffyns PLC in Lewes, East Sussex. The car remained with its first owner until early 2006, covering 36,000 miles in this time. It was then sold as an approved used vehicle by Land Rover main dealers Lloyd Land Rover of Carlisle in March 2006.
The second owner, a retired engineer treated the car gently, keeping it garaged and it is largely thanks to him that it looks as good as it does today. During his ownership he maintained the car himself, with entries in the service book detailing some of the work he carried out, including cleaning and protecting the underside and chassis. The car remained with him until he passed away in 2023, with ownership passing to a family member. It was from him I purchased the car in January 2024.
