The Appeal
Alfa Romeo is no stranger to producing distinctive and desirable cars, but the Type 916 GTV and Spider launched in 1993 were on another level when it came to standing out from the crowd. Designed by Enrico Fumia while working at Pininfarina, these wedge-shaped sports cars still look as fresh as the day they were launched more than a quarter of a century ago. In 1998 the GTV (Gran Turismo Veloce – or Fast Grand Touring) became the grateful recipient of what many consider to be Alfa's best and most charismatic motor - the 215bhp 3.0-litre 24-valve Busso V6, driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. With a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds and a claimed top speed of nearly 150mph they were highly rated when new and are thoroughly usable modern classics; real driver’s cars in the best tradition of Alfa Romeo.
Having covered just over 50,000 miles since 2004, this Phase II example has been owned for the past 10 years by a true “Alfaholic”, having owned numerous Alfas over the past 25 years. With nicely incorporated upgrades and a good history of servicing and maintenance it remains in excellent condition for a car approaching its 20th birthday!
