The Background
The Subaru Impreza is synonymous with the world of rally and racing alike and is a firm favourite of many car enthusiasts around the world.
Well known for its phenomenal handling and grip in all conditions and enough power to embarrass modern cars. Along with that, the updated chassis was much stiffer to its predecessor providing better safety and of course, better performance in competition.IMG_7906-94.jpg2.71 MB
The History
This particular example was imported in February 2020 from Japan and soon sold to its current owner who has covered less than 1000km in it since their ownership.
It is to be noted that due to health concerns the vendor has left the car in the hands of the original importer for the sale and the transaction will be carried out as such.IMG_7825-24.jpg1.97 MB
The Paperwork
The usual V5 document showing 1 previous owner is present (the 1 previous being the importer) along with proof of the latest service and belts that have been changed.
It is fair to say a 20 year old vehicle is rarely immaculate but this example certainly is immaculate. We were blown away by the standard of care this has evidently seen and was pretty much impossible to fault.
Throughout all the fabrics of the seats which often are stained or worn were spotless. The mats were all original, thick piled and clean.
The seat bolsters were totally unworn, with virtually no evidence of use and defiantly do not show their age.
All the black plastics from the dash to the higher wear areas were in beautiful condition with little to no marks and no sign of damage or repairs that we could see.
Overall, a hard to fault, original and very attractive interior that wouldn’t be far off concours condition.IMG_7843-41.jpg2.21 MB
The Exterior
51E is the colour code that adorn this STi and we think it looks very well against the gold wheels.
The wheels themselves are 17’’ and original and in very good order with just one kerb rash mark that we spotted. They are shod in a near new set of Bridgestone T005 tyres and look very good indeed.
Behind these are the large, gold Brembo brake callipers which are in very good condition but not perfect and are likely still on the original paint.
The bodywork is nice and straight with no obvious dings that we saw. Some areas have had some paintwork repairs but we were informed this was to enhance the exterior due to typical age related issues like stone chips. The repairs that have been done have been done to a very good standard and probably would only benefit from a light machine polish if you felt so inclined.
We noted a couple of small touch-ups here and there and some odd bits of overspray that could be easily removed, but ultimately for a 20yr old car, it was very well presented.IMG_7801-2.jpg4.14 MB
The Mechanics
As with nearly all Japanese imported cars the mechanics are impeccable due to strict standards and the lack of salt of the roads. This is no exception.
A glance underneath shows very light surface rust here and there on bolt heads and the exhaust but something more like what you would see on a 3 year old car in the UK.
The car has been treated to a full service including all the belts and fluids, including transmission and differentials. Recent brake pads have also been fitted on each corner and the brakes feel sharp and confident.
Out on the road this Impreza drove perfectly. No rattles or squeaks that we heard and a subtle note from the stock STi exhaust system was music to our ears.
The engine, which features forged internals, started and idled perfectly and pulled hard without trying and the gears changed with a very new and tight feel.IMG_7871-66.jpg2.3 MB
The Appeal
This is a rare opportunity to own and enjoy a fresh and unmolested example of a JDM future classic.
With the appeal these cars have in the current car climate this is a sure-fire investment with the added bonus of being very useable.
Lots of work carried out means plenty of miles of enjoyment to be had without worry.
With 280bhp at your toe-tips and a close ratio, short shift gear box at hand theres few other cars that will make your weekend quite like this one.
