The Appeal

There’s a good argument to say the 996 is all the sports car you’ll ever need. These reliable and durable cars work as daily drivers and weekend treats. And, of course, thanks to a huge array of body and specification combinations, there is a 996 for virtually everyone.
If you’re in the market for a 996 that can be pointable on the twisties and relaxing on motorways, plus comfortable in winter and open top in summer, you’re in the right place. The 996 Targa achieved what previous open-roofed 911s had failed to deliver - sunshine motoring without losing that classic coupe profile.
This Targa ticks the boxes. It is one of the later cars with the more powerful 320bhp 3.6L flat-six, has the versatile Tiptronic 5spd automatic box - with sequential manual mode - and is, of course, a Targa with that big glass roof. That layout also delivers an advantage not often flagged on these cars - a big hatchback rear window that expands storage capacity.
Classically finished in silver metallic with a grey leather cabin, it is a well-looked-after car in good order. The mileage is low for the year at a shade over 80,000 miles.
The service history runs to May 2024 - when it was attended to by specialists Bell Sport & Classic - and the MOT runs to December 2025. The dateless '996' plate is included. There were no advisories on the test. Whether you’re planning a trip to Le Man Classic or just a classic weekend getaway, this 996 looks tempting.
The vendor tells us:
“Lovely to have the large open targa top on spring and summer days. The rear targa hatch makes it a very practical Porsche 911 for everyday use.”
