2002 Jaguar XKR Auto

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Stunning 4.2-litre XKR
  • Only 76k miles from new
  • Substantial service history
  • Immaculately presented

THE APPEAL

The XKR is the ultimate derivative of the original Jaguar XK8 sports car, with incredible performance, a shrieking supercharger, gorgeous looks and a wonderfully balanced chassis.
Launched in 1996, the model was revised in 2002 with the original 4.0-litre V8 increased in size to 4.2-litres and the power upped from 370bhp to 400bhp.
This example is one such car and it’s an absolute stunner – a genuine low mileage car in rare and desirable Ebony Black, with a very rare Magnolia interior with walnut veneers, rather than the dark maple or carbon-effect finish often found in ‘R’-badged models. It also comes with smart Montreal 20-inch alloy wheels, as found on the XKR 100 centenary models. It’s a hugely desirable example of a superb British sports car.

THE INTERIOR

  • Unusual Magnolia leather
  • Walnut inserts
  • Integrated sat nav
  • Excellent leather seat facings
  • Rear seat appears unused
  • Very good door cards
  • Optional part-wood steering wheel
  • Electrically adjustable steering column
  • Factory mats
  • Cruise control
  • Climate control
  • Heated seats
  • Steering wheel audio controls
  • Spotless luggage area
  • CD changer and sat nav
  • Integrated Jaguar-Motorola car phone
  • Original tools and spacesaver spare wheel
  • Pinned-up roof lining
The condition of the  interior is what really sets the car apart. It all looks immaculate, and this is clearly a car that has been carefully looked after throughout its life. The carpets have been protected by overmats, and are as clean and tidy as the rest of the interior, as are both door panels. The radio and satnav both work, as do the electric windows. The centre console contains a time-warp built-in phone, which seems to work but needs a SIM card.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Ebony black
  • 20-inch “Montreal” alloys
  • Appears very good underneath
  • Panels are all straight and dent-free and there are no rust bubbles in any vulnerable areas
  • Rear arches and trailing edges of the sills are in good order
  • All four wheels are in excellent condition, and have recently been fitted with new Pirelli P-Zero tyres all round.

THE MECHANICS

  • Supercharged 4.2-litre V8
  • Five-speed auto transmission
  • Amazing 400bhp performance
  • Recent service, plugs, oil change
  • Recent steering rack gaiter and washer pump
  • Drives superbly with no known or apparent faults
The car starts on first turn of the key, and runs smoothly on tick-over. Gear Changes from the auto gearbox are quick and quiet, with no untoward noises.  The car steers quickly and accurately, and the brakes bring it to a halt on a sixpence (it’s recently had new brake discs and branded XKR callipers, at considerable expense).

The XKR is a particular favourite of ours. Fantastic for touring, a great luxury powerful and comfortable car with classic styling.

SUMMARY

This is a genuine, very tidy and low mileage example of a 4.2-litre XKR and is in lovely order inside and out. Add in the scintillating performance on offer, the rare interior colour scheme and the terrific combination of comfort and performance and you have one of the best modern classic grand tourers that money can buy. It’s a lovely thing, and in great condition throughout.
