2002 Jaguar S Type R

Highlights

  • Just 29,791 miles
  • An immaculate example in superb order for its age
  • Right-hand drive Japanese import
  • All import taxes paid and Nova certification attained in readiness for UK road registration
  • Japanese book pack, service history and Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate accompany the car

The Appeal

Paying homage to the Mk2 and indeed the original S-Type beloved of 1960s bank robbers, Jaguar unveiled the S-Type R in 2002. Built to take the fight to the Germans, specifically the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG, the R boasted a hand-built 4.2-litre V8 which in turn was bolted to an enormous Eaton M112 supercharger. You could reasonably brand it a Q Car, as visually the R differed relatively little from regular versions of the S-Type. But with 400 bhp under your right foot, its performance was anything but ordinary.
You’d be hard-pushed to find another example that’s even half as good as this one. We’re delighted to present this superb right-hand drive Japanese import with a mere 29,791 miles on the odometer. This car is yet to be registered in the UK, so hasn’t spent any time whatsoever on salted roads. It’s impeccably preserved, as Japanese market executive saloons so often are, and it comes with a full original book pack, maintenance booklet and even its leather document wallet.
All import taxes have reportedly been paid and Nova certification has been attained in readiness for UK road registration. We’re deeply envious of whoever is to become this Jag’s first UK registered keeper.

The History and Paperwork

  • 29,791 miles
  • JDHT Production Record Trace certificate issued in July 2022
  • Manufactured in October 2002 and supplied via JLR Kabush in Japan
  • Nova paperwork present in readiness for UK road registration
  • We’re assured that all import taxes have been paid
  • Original Japanese language book pack and wallet with user manuals, maintenance booklet and Jaguar Care Card
  • Yet to attain UK number plates or MOT

The Condition

  • Tastefully appointed in silver over black leather upholstery with richly figured birds eye maple veneers
  • Exceedingly straight bodywork with well-fitting doors and even panel gaps
  • No obvious signs of corrosion or accident damage
  • All four alloy wheels present impeccably and are fitted with Michelin tyres
  • Discreet ‘R’ badging and boot spoiler all present and in good visual order
  • Bonnet mounted Jaguar “leaper” the only external chrome adornment
  • Very slight scuff around the boot aperture, likely caused when loading/unloading luggage (see photograph)
  • The underside looks incredibly clean, thanks to the very low mileage and life spent on Japan’s salt-free roads
  • Also in line with the mileage, the interior is barely showing any signs of noticeable wear
  • The upholstery presents impeccably, with no heavy creasing or sagging to the leather
  • The rear seats appear hardly used - if at all
  • The controls and infotainment screen present very well
  • No obvious deterioration to the copious woodwork
  • No notable wear to the buttons/switchgear
  • Dual climate control with air conditioning and heated seats
  • Integrated MiniDisc player - as was popular for a period, especially in Japan where it was invented by Sony
  • We understand all the cabin electrics/systems to be in good working order

The Mechanics

  • 4.2-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine
  • ZF six-speed automatic gearbox driving the rear wheels
  • Having covered so few miles, this Jaguar is unlikely to have accrued much in the way of mechanical wear
  • We understand that it has been well-maintained in Japan and is yet to be driven on the road in Britain
  • All looks in good order under the bonnet
  • Reportedly in good running and driving order
