2001 Porsche 911 (996) Turbo

Highlights

  • 1200 bhp modified supercar
  • Extensive build history
  • Superb condition throughout
  • Estimated to have cost over £90,000 to complete
  • Completely road legal!

The Background

When the 911 996 variant was debuted it heralded the introduction of a water-cooled engine that replaced the previous generations air-cooled engine. The switch was required due to stringent emissions and noise regulations, and also being an all rounder GT car, the 911 had high expectations for refinement.
With a completely new platform and a sleeker profile the 911 retained its characteristic design but with a much sharper and aggressive styling. The Porsche Turbo in standard guise produced 414 bhp and with the 6 speed manual gearbox was the motoring journalists perfect car, on road and track.

The History

This isn’t just a Porsche 9111 Turbo, it is on another level in terms of upgrades, performance and uniqueness. Boasting an incredible 1200 bhp, this car has been extensively modified by the previous owner with the aim of producing the ultimate performance sports car.

It was a project that took place over a four year period and included the overhaul and/ or replacement of a large proportion of the engine. Subsequently the current owner has made a few enhancements to make it road legal, including a new exhaust system and Michelin Pilot Sport N4 tyres all round, and the car is pictured complete with number plates in the gallery.
The standard all-wheel-drive system has been replaced by a rear-wheel drive layout similar to the 996 GT2, the twin-turbocharged “Mezger” flat-six 3.8 litre is almost trebled in power from the standard model, with all upgrades fitted to make this car handle and accelerate in tune with its chassis.
This car is a genuine UK model, this 996 has been extensively restored and modified with a host of OEM and aftermarket addition to it. It is fitted with a Hallman Pro manual boost controller alongside an electronic GReddy boost controller to vary the power output, when 1200bhp is maybe a bit too much! This ranges from 600bhp right up to the 1200bhp output.

The Paperwork

The car comes with a wealth of paperwork, charting its early history and the extent of the rebuild of the vehicle over a four year period. The car comes with a fresh MOT that was a first time pass with no advisories, this is valid until 18th December 2022. ( the vehicle reg details are available in the photo gallery)
The recent paperwork shows that Center Gravity recently carried out a geometry check and adjustment to all four wheels and also replaced the rear upper link arm bush.
The handbook is present with original manuals and handbook, plus two keys and booklet for the recently fitted Pioneer head DAB/CD unit.

The Interior

The interior is in excellent condition, the full leather-clad GT2 bucket seats are in fine order and also complete with Schroth racing harnesses, for the driver and passenger. The addition of a genuine Porsche roll cage adds to this 911’s racing pedigree. The addition of carbon-fibre trim enhances the cabin, the lacquer is in good order and gear shift, handbrake are ups to the same standard as the rest ion the cabin.
The re-trimmed steering wheel is like new, and the addition of a Pioneer DAB/CD head unit recently fitted finishes off the dashboard nicely, plus it sounds amazing with the Bose speaker system. It also has a pop out bracket to sit your phone in for GPS navigation via Waze or Google maps.
All door cards are in good condition and showcase how well looked after this 911 has been since its original ownership just over twenty years ago. The original Porsche stereo head unit is also included.

The Exterior

The car's Basalt Black metallic paint had a bare-metal respray a few years back and is in superb condition, a couple of small stone chips are present but only visible close up. The addition of a genuine 911 GT2 front bumper and rear wing set this 996 off perfectly and befit its racing credentials, albeit still in a stealthy guise.
The Turbo “twist” alloys are in very good condition, with just a chip on the off side rear present and some small chips on the front off side alloy, both shown in the photo gallery. As mentioned previously the present owner has fitted recently a set of Michelin Pilot N4 profile tyres all round.

The Mechanics

The cars history is vast and shows all of the modifications carried out, the engine rebuild was carried out by Parr Porsche, a reputable marque specialist in West Sussex. The original engine capacity was enlarged from 3.6 to 3.8 litres with forged pistons, Carillo rods, upgraded bearings, head bolts, valves and more to set this car up for its huge power output.
The car now has two GT 3076R turbochargers modified by Owen Developments, with 4.5” race intercoolers and an Aquamist water/methanol injection system. Also an ERP triple plate carbon clutch and flywheel were fitted to control the power.
The chassis has also had a full overhaul with KW Variant 3 coilovers and arms and bushes replaced with new Powerflex and Elephant racing items. Ceramic brakes are gripped by Brembo callipers at the front and four-piston items at the rear. The service was done prior to the current owner purchasing the vehicle, and gearbox and axle fluids have been replaced every 10-15000 miles, and spark plugs at 20,000 mile intervals.

Here is a comprehensive list of the modifications that were done excluding the recent work costing around £8,000 to make the car road lagal.
