Highlights
- Water-cooled 3.4-litre flat-six engine producing just shy of 300 horsepower
- Smart black leather interior with little wear
- Runs and drives very well
The Appeal
Introduced in 1997, the Porsche 996 has gone down in Porsche history as the first 911 to adopt water cooling which they continue to use today.
What is often forgotten is that the Carrera 2 remains the lightest water-cooled 911 to date and the 3.4-litre flat-six is capable of propelling this car to speeds in excess of 174 mph.
Here we have a Carrera 2 Cabriolet which is suffering from a couple of electrical gremlins but otherwise is a presentable example. The vendor informs us that an ECU fault has affected the operation of the steering wheel controls, doors, windows and hood, although the car drives as it should.
If you’re after an affordable 911, then this could well be the car for you.
