2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK 32 AMG

HIGHLIGHTS

  • AMG Powered two-seater
  • Well presented
  • Special colour option

THE APPEAL

Mercedes SLKs are a huge amount of fun if you are looking for a two-seater sports car capable of being used all year round.

But when you add the AMG letters into the equation, you get an altogether different animal.

The AMG tuned SLK improves the already well established sports car into something even better; with improved handling, performance and looks, the SLK is undoubtedly a serious contender in the two-seater market.

Fitted with a 3.2 litre supercharged V6, the AMG engineers squeezed an impressive 349bhp from the V6 and coupled this to the slick five-speed automatic gearbox.
What does make the SLK so appealing?

Apart from the obvious AMG power and fantastic handling, it’s the amazing automatic hard top which, at the touch of a button, turns the open-top sports car into a nice usable coupé.

With approximately 4,333 made, just 263 of those made it to the UK, making this quite a rare car.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Registration document is present
  • UK Registered 7th September 2001
  • Exported to Ireland 17th May 2021
  • Spare key
  • Owner’s handbooks
  • Previous MOT certificates
  • Selection of old invoices
  • Original bill of sale
  • One previous keeper
The vendor reported the car to have been initially purchased in the UK by a family member and moved it over to Ireland with them in 2021.

The vehicle has been brought back to the UK by the vendor for the sale, but it has not been re-registered with the DVLA. The seller has not done this to avoid putting another owner on the car.
The SLK was given an MOT on the 14th July 2022, which it passed with no advisories.

THE INTERIOR

  • AMG Anthracite leather
  • Designo leather Dark Green trim option
  • Birds-eye maple wood trim
  • Electric seats
  • Air conditioning
Inside, the Mercedes is finished in Anthracite leather with the Designo Dark Green leather seats, centre sections on the door cards, and steering wheel.

The electric seats are reported to be working correctly and look in good condition from what we can see from the vendor's images. The door cards also look to be in good order with just the usual marks on the handles, as to be expected from the age of the vehicle.
The dashboard looks in good order, with some signs of age around the ignition switch. The instruments are working as they should, with no warning lights reported to be displayed when the engine is running. The odometer shows a reading of 87,396 miles.

The wood centre panel is generally in good condition, and the original factory head-unit is present and working as it should. The switchgear is all in good order with no apparent signs of any wear to the lettering on the buttons, and the vendor reports that everything is working correctly.
The colour coming off the centre console is quite common to be seen on SLKs; unfortunately, this is no different from the rest, and it has started to peel off in places. The steering wheel is in good condition and shows just a light amount of wear in keeping with the age and mileage.

Inside the boot is nice and clean. The original first aid kit is present, along with the warning triangle.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Aventurine Orange
  • AMG wheels
  • Xenon headlights
  • AMG styling pack
  • Original first aid kit
What a stunning colour option for this 2001 SLK32 AMG. The Aventurine Orange looks fantastic from all angles.

The SLK has received some paint to freshen up the bumpers and sides. There are minimal stone chips to note when looking at the front, and the bumper looks like it aligns as it should with the bulging bonnet. The lights are in good condition, apart from one of the fog lights has a crack across the lens.
From the sides, the SLK presents well, and the door gaps are equal on both sides. There is a small ding on the driver's door, and maybe a paintless dent removal specialist could tackle this, but they would obviously need to inspect it first.

The windows are in good order with no noticeable scratches, and the seals look in good order. For the SLK’s party trick, the roof operates as it should, going up and down within the specified time.
The rear is in good order with no scuffs or dings to mention, and the light lenses are free from splits or cracks. The AMG boot spoiler is a nice addition, topped off with the fantastic sounding AMG exhaust.

Fitted with the original AMG twin five-spoke alloy wheels, these are in good condition with just a few minor age-related marks and a tiny amount of corrosion in a couple of places. The tyres are Michelin with a good amount of tread on each corner.

THE MECHANICS

  • 3.2 litre supercharged
  • Five-speed automatic transmission
  • AMG exhaust
  • Michelin tyres
Supercharged 3.2 litre V6 and 349bhp! The SLK is reported to start up as it should, and no untoward noises are said to be coming from the engine bay.
The gearbox is said to be a smooth change with no hesitation, and the car pulls strongly through the five-speed automatic gearbox.
When it comes to stopping the AMG SLK, the brakes are said to be working correctly, bringing the car to a stop in a straight line, with no juddering through the pedal.

SUMMARY

This is certainly a serious contender for anyone in the market for a hard-top convertible two-seater sports car.

With all the benefits of a hard top, you can still get the roof down at the touch of a button on those sunny days.

When you do, you will also be able to hear the fantastic sound of the 3.2 litre Supercharged V6.
When new, this SLK came in at just over £45,000, and with just 263 sold in the UK, it's sure to be a sought-after car, especially in the stunning Aventurine Orange.

Summer is still here; what are you waiting for?
