2001 Land Rover Defender 90 Tomb Raider Edition

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Full-Service History
  • Very clean and cared for original example
  • Only 2 lady owners

THE APPEAL

The Land Rover Defender continues to be a very collectable and desirable Land Rover and this limited-edition Tomb Raider version certainly stands out from the many examples you’ll find available for sale.

So if you’re a Land Rover or movie fan, or both, this car should certainly appeal to you, being a rare opportunity to acquire a nice original example of the timeless Defender in this ‘special equipment’ guise.

Only 250 examples were built to celebrate the Defender’s starring role in the ‘Tomb Raider’ film. Finished in Bonatti Grey with extensive chequer-plate body cladding, a roof pack and support bar frame was also fitted, along with a row of spotlights atop, side protection runners and Pewter Grey ‘boost’ alloy wheels. A unique Tomb Raider plaque was also present on the front wing.

It's powered by the 2.5-litre Td5 diesel engine, producing around 122hp and 221lb-ft of torque, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission and this example features the optional extra of half-leather black seats.

HISTORY & PAPERWORK

  • First registered in September 2001
  • Long term ownership for 20 years
  • V5c present
  • Comprehensive service history
  • Many receipts for servicing and parts
  • Current MOT expires 6/01/23

Owned for most of its life by a lady in Suffolk, this has been a very well cared for Land Rover with a well-documented service history

The current owner has had the car for about a year and has decided to sell due to a lack of use to allow a new owner to embark on his or her own adventure.

THE INTERIOR

  • Half leather seats
  • Sun-roof
  • Up-rated stereo
Inside the cabin you’ll find chequer-plate panels in the foot wells and various aluminium components that help distinguish this special edition from a normal Defender.

The cabin does show signs of wear and tear as you’d expect from a twenty-year-old car with but other than a few scuffs on the trim it’s all in pretty good and serviceable condition.

The rest of the rugged interior has fared well too, everything showing the patina of age with the door cards, windows and safari roof all in good condition with the half-leather folding rear seats all being free from any rips or tears.

All the gauges, instruments and switchgear are all reported to function correctly and the sunroof and headlining all look good too

THE EXTERIOR

  • Bonatti Grey paintwork
  • Pewter Grey alloy wheels
  • Extensive chequer-plate body cladding
  • Roof rack and support bar frame
  • Row of spotlights
  • Side protection runners
Finished in Bonatti Grey the bodywork shows no sign of any damage or major dents with only bubbling beginning to appear on many of the body panels where steel meets aluminium and oxidisation occurs.

The roof rack, the various bolt-on additions and the door hinges are all showing early signs of corrosion, but all the chequer-plate body cladding is in great condition.

The alloy wheels all look good and are fitted with All Terrain tyres with plenty of life left in them.

Other than these aforementioned slight imperfections the overall impression is good, with the underneath looking solid and clean.

THE MECHANICS

  • 2.5 litre Diesel
  • 6 speed manual
  • Extensive service history
The current owner reports that there are no known issues with the car, and it was last serviced prior to her purchase, since when it has only covered around 3,000 miles.

A look under the bonnet shows no obvious signs of any coolant or oil leaks and everything appears to be in good shape as one would expect in a car that has been regularly serviced and maintained.
