2001 Land Rover Defender 110

Highlights

  • Chassis appearing in excellent condition
  • All original example, unrestored
  • Matching numbers

The Appeal

With the ability to travel where many fear to tread, Land Rover Defenders have always been the leader of the pack of the all-terrain world for the masses throughout generations. Robust manufacture as well as tried and tested reliability makes these prime picking for those on the lookout for a workhorse that backs down from no task.
This example on display here could do with a little TLC on the exterior. Previously wearing some decorative vinyls which have since been removed, leaving behind scars of where they once sat. The vehicle appears to be well preserved, with very minimal signs of the usual chassis corrosion we’re used to seeing on old Defenders. A workhorse undoubtedly, but a solid one at that.

The History and Paperwork

  • Registered in 2001
  • The vehicle registration documents remain present
  • Service history reportedly in good order
  • Previous mechanical invoices present with the vehicle
  • CVRT disc from 2021 remains present on the windscreen, as well as other permits
  • Currently registered in Dublin

The Interior

  • Original interior
  • Front seats remain presented in great condition, with some minimal signs of age and use and no signs of rips or tears throughout
  • Steering wheel shows some signs of use as expected, with heavy wear around the upper portion of the outer rim
  • Original gauges presented well and remain entirely functional with no unwelcoming warning signs present
  • Dashboard shows no signs of any cracks throughout
  • Original Land Rover floor mats present, could use a little clean up to get them back in great shape
  • Door cards present some scuffs and scratches from the years of use
  • Rear hatch remains operational with the door card here showing little signs of age
  • Rear interior benches show the usual signs of use, and it appears to have fold down bench-tops just above them
  • Headlining up front shows some signs of sagging, and the rear roof panels are well presented in their white paintwork

The Exterior

  • Originally presented in Green, this Defender has had a red re-paint at some point throughout its lifetime
  • Vinyls had been applied over the paint and upon removal they have taken off a layer of the paint with them, the entire vehicle would really require a respray to rectify
  • Front plastics show some hints of drying out from age, fading from their deep black to a grey, and the driver side around the headlamp appears to be cracked
  • Headlamps and other lights appear undamaged and remain functional
  • Paint blemishes throughout the entire vehicle including chips, scratches, small dents and what appears to be some chemical markings on the front driver side
  • Snorkel fitted as well as a metal frame roof rack
  • Metal protection bars over the rear lights, which remain entirely functional and free from cracked lenses
  • Steel wheels painted in white and show signs of corrosion and scuffs throughout, with the front tyres showing date codes from back in 2015

The Mechanics

  • 2.5-litre inline-4 cylinder engine
  • Permanent all-wheel drive configuration
  • Manual transmission with a vacuum operated differential lock
  • The vehicle has no reported mechanical problems, apparently starting at the turn of a key and running reliably with no unwelcome or unsuspected noises coming from the inline-four
  • Manual transmission reportedly remains in good mechanical condition, changing gears easily with no unexpected crunching
  • The chassis of the vehicle appears to be in good health, with very little signs of corrosion presented along the chassis rails and mounting points

Summary

Whether you’re looking for a proper reliable workhorse, or a nice project to dig your fingers into, you don’t need to look any further than this. Defenders make for absolutely outstanding companions when it comes to hard work, and also carry a very cult-like following in the classic automotive world. We all love to see clean example when one comes by. Could this be your next journey?
