2001 Jaguar XKR Convertible

Highlights

  • Lots of paperwork
  • Same ownership for the past decade
  • Beautiful colour combination
  • Private XKR Plate comes with the car

The Appeal

Jaguar have a great history of building some of the best sports cars to ever grace UK roads. When the XK came along in 1996 it was Jaguar's first real driver-orientated grand tourer since the E-Type, so it’s not like it had big shoes or anything. Luckily it was a hit.
This car has an interesting first chapter and has been with the current owner for the past decade. With much love and attention lavished over this example, it will provide you with endless miles of fun this summer and for many summers to come.
A truly usable car, with gorgeous aesthetics that cut a wonderful silhouette whether it's in the grounds of the country club or in the supermarket car park, the XKR also packs a serious, 4.0 shaped punch, with the 370bhp supercharged V8 providing enough power to show a clean pair of heels to cars half its age.

The sublime ride and smooth gearbox make this the ideal toy for those long summer evenings.

The History and Paperwork

  • Unusually, from new, this car is sent to Germany for the first owner to buy it and send it back to Liverpool
  • Luckily, the original invoice from Royal Motors Is still present which shows the options of Ivory leather, the navigation pack, parking sensors, a RHD package, memory package with seat heating, and easy entry
  • Looking at the well stamped service book, it would appear that it would stay in Liverpool for the majority of its early life
  • It would be continuously serviced by the same garage from 2006 to 2013, it would also appear that it was always serviced towards the end of the year
  • The last stamp in the book is from 2016 and 65,981 miles.
  • There is a large history file that will come with this car, amongst other paperwork it is filled with a lot of MOT certificates and the all-important V5
  • Having a look through the invoices we can see that it has been serviced regularly
  • In June of this year, the car received a throttle body and gasket
  • In 2020 the gearbox was sent away for a re-build

The Interior

  • Ivory leather electric & heated seats
  • Parking sensors
  • Wood in great condition
There is no better place to sit than the inside of a Jaguar - the swathes of comfortable leather that envelop you and enormous slab of forest on the dashboard are quintessentially British, yet homely.
The interior of this XKR is certainly businesses as usual and you will enjoy every second spent in it with the wind in your hair, the glorious supercharger whine up front and the V8 thunder bellowing out of those twin pipes at the back.
As we have seen from the original purchase invoice in 2001 the car was specified with Ivory leather seats. The front seats are also heated and electrically operated with the driver’s seat having two memory functions as well. You will be able to see some wear on the driver’s seat, but the leather has not split at all. This is more of a sign that this car has been used properly and not hidden away in a garage. The passenger’s seat is in good condition, with only minor wear. As you might expect, the rear seats look like they have rarely been sat in, so they are presented in very good condition.
To complement the ivory leather the dash is complimented with a 'Sable' dash top and adorned with that classic Jaguar slab of wood on the dashboard. It still looks new today and is presented with no obvious delamination or sun-bleaching. The wood carries on to the area surrounding the legendary J-gate gear selector, the gear selector knob, and some on the steering wheel too. These elements help lift the interior firmly into the luxury category.
Set into the middle of the wood dash is the optional infotainment screen, although this is something we see in every modern car, back in 2001 a screen inside a car with satellite navigation was revolutionary.
With this being the convertible XKR the interior can be instantly transformed at the press of a button.

The green fabric roof elevates and folds neatly behind the rear seats, it is then hidden with the tonneau cover that still comes in a Jaguar bag. Once the roof is retracted the true potential of the interior is unlocked and that hypnotic soundtrack can be enjoyed to its optimal level, in open air, full surround sound amphitheatre format.

The Exterior

  • Finished in a distinctive colour
  • Recently refurbished alloys
  • Green convertible hood
The exterior of the X100 generation of XK’s is absolutely sublime, the long sweeping bonnet with its elliptical opening is very reminiscent of the iconic E-Type. Thankfully this XKR is finished in a beautiful exterior specification, with its Seafrost metallic paint, green fabric roof, and dark grey 'Detroit'  BBS alloys it will be the envy of your entire neighbourhood.
If we start by looking at the Seafrost paint, we can see that it is in very good condition all over. It was photographed on a very sunny day indeed and the paint popped from every angle. A lovely addition to the exterior colour combination is the green fabric roof. There are some slight marks on the passenger side, but these do not hinder the roof at all.
Another small area of age related wear can be found on the trim just below the rear windows, the trim pieces have some slight bubbling, which are a very common occurrence on the X100's but you should be able to source new replacement parts online.
The current owner says that the BBS split rim alloys have just been through a refurbishment process which culminated in them being painted in this dark grey colour. These now look great when set against the light paintwork.

The Mechanics

  • Big supercharged V8 under the bonnet
  • Gearbox recently refurbished
  • Amazing to drive
  • Recent MoT advisories all rectified
Jaguars really are the whole package, comfortable interiors, beautiful exterior looks, and more importantly incredibly capable mechanical components. The X100 XKR is indeed a very capable sports tourer with a powerful supercharged V8 and silky smooth Mercedes 5GTronic automatic gearbox.
With a lot of invoices in the paperwork bundle that reference small works here and there, and a service book that is well stamped it is clear to see that this car has been looked after properly throughout its lifetime.
The most important invoice in the bundle refers to the gearbox reconditioning in 2020. From the MOT data, it looks like it has only covered a few thousand miles since, so it should still feel lovely to drive.
This Jag has oodles of power, a smooth gearbox, and characteristic Jaguar ride quality. With all of these elements, it will a dream for you to get in and drive.

Summary

As we are currently experiencing one of the hottest summers on record, then it is about time that you treat yourself to a convertible. So why not make it a convertible with a huge supercharged V8 that will reward you every time that you go out for a drive.
Jaguar have committed to being all electric in the future, this decision should only increase the value of the proper, blue blooded, V8’s.
