The Appeal

The Ford Transit has been the benchmark for all vans and small trucks to follow for decades and here’s one that really stands out from the crowd.

This breakdown recovery version has been very well personalised in a way that would get you and your business noticed.

It’s ready to go to work with everything you’ll need to rescue broken and abandoned vehicles from almost anywhere.

The History and Paperwork

  • Current V5c
  • Presently on a SORN
  • Quality conversion

The Transit was purchased as an interesting addition at a new automotive museum in the north of England but is now available to make way for other exhibits.

With that in mind, the vehicle is currently without an MOT certificate and is on a SORN. However, an MOT can be provided to the new owner on purchase.

Although there is no supporting history or invoices, it is quite obvious that the conversion has been done well and the finish is good and with attention to detail.

The Interior

  • Bright red vinyl seats
  • Large-screen entertainment system with DVD
  • Standard instrumentation and controls

The cab of the vehicle follows the scheme of the exterior with the addition of a set of plush hi-back vinyl seats in bright red and to match, the sun visors have been treated to the same finish.

The standard dashboard has had a pop-up entertainment system fitted which incorporates a DVD player. The instrumentation has been kept standard as has the steering wheel.

Everything appears to function as it should and no warning lights are appearing on the dash when running.

There is a little secret button beneath the driver’s seat that activates the train-sized air horns.

The Exterior

  • Bright red colour scheme
  • Lots of chrome embellishments
  • Fake exhaust stacks
  • Clean chassis

The outside appearance of this truck really does catch the eye. Finished in bright red with lots of chrome.

There has been attention to detail which gives the whole vehicle something of an American feel. Chrome wheel covers at the front and a big bull bar with spot lamps all create a truly eye-catching machine.

The aero sun visor and faux exhaust stacks also help give that ‘big rig’ look. The finish is good and with a deep shine everywhere you look. It is a vehicle that’d get noticed for sure.

The chassis of the vehicle appears to have been carefully cleaned and painted and has several new fixings.

Although not fully examined, the photographs taken at ground level suggest the chassis to be in good order.

The Mechanics

  • 2.4 Turbo Diesel
  • Electric Winch
  • Unused hoist system

The engine bay houses a standard 2.4 turbo diesel unit that starts straight from the key.

All the mechanicals appear to be standard factory fitment with the addition of the hoist system. The powered winch does not look like it has ever been used and it was not tested during the photo session.

It is understood that the vehicle is capable of being put to work but it is unknown if any further work is required for it to do so.

Summary

If bling is your thing then this Transit is the one for you. It is a truly striking-looking bit of kit that someone has spent a considerable amount of time and effort creating.

It is unknown if it was ever destined to be put to work, but it does appear more than capable.

The contrast between the red paintwork and the splashes of chrome everywhere provides an eye-popping look that wouldn’t look out of place on the roads of Detroit.

It may need a little fettling to actually use it in anger but even if it was spared the work it’d be one heck of a rolling advert for a business or just a cool addition to someone’s truck collection.

Move over Optimus Prime, there’s a new kid on the block.
